No not all broken horn animals are culls or management animals. Hunters choice if he likes any animals on hunts with us. .

My point is some guys like broken horns and could care less. Others do want perfect but that is the hunters choice. I have seen many elk taken with broken racks and they sure were not culls. Broken racks and horns happen with animals.

I am concerned on how your post came across like a broken horn animal was pushed on a hunter.

Not sure why us would be a concern as I help pieter out and part of the pawprint team so I use the word us.

Why the hostility? Do you have first hand info that someone was "talked" into a broken horn and /or charged full price at this outfit? If not you seem to be picking at something that's just not there. To me Bill's comments were solely to say say you had the choice, no more, no less. And before it goes anywhere, I have nothing to do with pawprint- actually turned down an offer from them to go with another outfitter in Aug for what I felt like was a better package for me. As for Bill we have had very little conversation between us and certainly wouldnt be considered buddies. I only got into it because I have rarely seen this kind of thing pop up on here, seems out of place given the postings

Right on my profile or anything I post it shows I am with pawprint. I would make the same comments on any post when someone talks about something they dont know.I have seen many of pictures with broken horn animals and happy hunters.
Do you know what he paid for that nyala?
Do you know if pieter said we can do better but reedy decide to take it anyway?
Do you know what all outfitters think are culls?

What I see is a happy hunter in the picture with his nyala. Then I see a post of a guy happy he is going to SA and is hunting with US. Then you decide your going to tell him no matter what they say a broken horn animal is a cull and you will be only happy if you take another one. I think you stepped out of bounds with the comment.

As for my deal on my nyala lets just say if I get the one I am after I will be paying more then reedy.But then again pieter always treats me fair on all animals I hunt and the other 4 guys going with are all happy with there pricing to.

Dont see anything that you said about choice there. See no matter what they say you will like another over a broken horn. That come across to me like we are pushing junk animals over trophys. Not sure why you felt the need to make the comment about something you dont know the facts on plan and simple.

As for broken horns for me and my pictures. Well better then half the animals are my sons that he picked to take and is free to take broken horn if he likes. We try to look for non typical but have not seen any in africa. I not recall seeing any place i even said i would or would not take a broken horn animal. Said it is hunters choice and because you think it is a cull that does not make it so. The one who decide that is the landowner and outfitter.

I think this is likely where the issue is. I will agree with you from what I have seen in the most recent vids is the PH's saying a lot about good mature animals, usually with ones with broomed horns, smaller horns etc. I believe this is mainly to sooth a certain kind of hunter- one who expects the world, but cant keep his finger off the trigger, or due to the fact that truly big trophys are getting harder to come by. Either way they are still leaving it up to the hunter to pull the trigger, and I very much doubt if they had a broken horn in front of them and the hunter said pass, that the PH would tell them they had to shoot. Plus I believe Norfolk is capable of deciding for himself, when the animal is in front of him, if he likes it- broken horn or not

Nice trophy's Reedy. Love the buff rather a big lad he was too. I shall be with Pieter on the 11th of May. Cant wait first time in Africa hunting. Only plains game mind you. Good to see the grass hasnt got too long.

I've posted this picture before, it's my red hartebeest taken near Rust de Winter in 2014. I was hunting with African Sky Safaris at the time. The PH and I both glassed him and liked what we saw. I made the choice to shoot him. It wasn't until we walked up on him that I noticed he had a broken tip. He was not a cull at all. I paid full price because I shot him.....I didn't even think of saying hey I want a do over. I think he has a lot of character and he occupies a great space on my wall and always will.

Reedy got a very nice Nyala and I'm quite sure he wasn't pushed to shoot that one. Pieter just doesn't do that period.
Not everyone is looking for perfection in a trophy. For instance I like to take deer that have racks that are bent twisted and broken because they are cool to me. In the end it's each unto his own.
Pieter takes care of his customers and gives them a great hunt with good trophies. If reedy is disappointed, and he has no reason to be, I would be surprised. He has taken a great buff, a very nice Nyala , a very good waterbuck so far and I'm sure more to come!

Billc is in fact the US Rep for Paw Print and I don't think he has every indicated otherwise. He can get testy but he always tries to seek to understand and make his points with respect. I can't fault him for that.

I spent five days of hard hunting after Nyala with Paw Print in March. The only bull to present my with a shot long enough or in an area open enough was an old bull with two broken horns. He seemed to know that he was safe. At no time was I ever pressured to take him. It looks like Reedy shot the bull and one he will consider a trophy for the rest of his life. I think a congratulations is in order!

I think Pieter did the right thing by discounting the Nyala. That's one of the benefits of hunting with the outfitter/PH, he has the say so to make adjustments at the time of seeing the critter where a PH might not have the authority. Last year a large eland bull came close to the blind, the problem was he had only one horn the other completely missing but the PH didn't know if I would be charged full price so I passed on him because to me it wasn't worth full price as he looked kind of silly.

If reedy had his rifle with him that would have been sorted!! Off to the range on Sunday to get some last practice in. I feel I have very good trigger discipline so if I don't want to shoot something I don't. I appreciate peoples concern but I'm sure I shall be fine. I'm going after warthog, wildebeest, impala and blesbock X1 of each. I wouldnt mind a bobo if I get a chance.
