After a few months of speaking with many of you on here about .375's, and trying to decide what I wanted, I finally decided on a Kimber Talkeetna. My preference on a .375 is SS and synthetic, so this was one of the few I could find with many good reviews. It arrived today and I am excited now! Perhaps it will get some field time after a Buffalo in 3 months when I am in South Africa!

Congrats!!!!

That will hunt. :A Banana:

So what type of scope do you plan on topping it with, or will you leave it open sighted?

After speaking with some guys who have hunted leopard and buff, it was suggested by a few of them to get a red dot scope of some sort, at least one that has the option to turn a red dot on. So, that sounded like good advice to me, especially since I plan on hunting leopard at some point as well. So, I went with a Leupold fire dot in 2x7x33

Thanks guys, I really hope I can pull together the buffalo hunt while I'm there in April, I think I can! :E Excited:

:A Rock:Love the Kimbers!

Get some ammo or build your own and get shooting would be my advice. Need to discover any idiosyncrasies now and not after the flight over.

Really nice looking set-up ... I like the SS and synthetic option as well ... hadn't looked at the Kimber!

fine looking firearm
love the s/s plastic option too .

Good looking rifle! As mentioned above get to the range and do a lot of shooting!

Scott, the Kimber is a beauty and its actually carbon fiber and Kevlar versus a traditional synthetic. And yes gents, I plan on doing some shooting before getting over there for sure!

I was too lazy to type carbon fiber and Kevlar ... it ain't wood so it won't expand or crack or .... :-)!

All you .375 guys, and larger caliber users as well, please advise on bullet choice. As a hopeful first time dangerous game hunter, I have seen many buff hunts on tv, and sometimes the shooter uses a solid first then soft point for follow up, sometimes only solids. Is this a personal choice, PH suggestion or preference, etc? Any input would be appreciated

Are you a handloader or shooting factory ammo?

It would be factory ammo for me

Swift A Frame in 300gr... nothing better for that calibre!!!!
I have 2 x 375's and have shot many buffalo and all with Swift A Frame... also use Swift A Frame in my 458.
I normally load the magazine with 3 x solids in 300gr below and 2 x A Frames ( softs) on top.
Never YET had to use the solids in an emergency, as the A frames sorted the buff.
BUT... there are many other excellent bullet choices for this calibre.

Thanks Bruce!

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
