Companies that are Non-Supportive of Hunting

Verizon. They suddenly dropped the Outdoor Channel and the Sportsman Channel. They continued Al Jazeera.
That says everything about Verizon.

Verizon Drops Outdoor Channel

If you're a subscriber to Verizon FiOS TV, we've got some bad news for you. The cable provider announced last week that they will no longer carry Outdoor Channel.

“Our partners, advocates and viewers of outdoor lifestyle programming are very disappointed with Verizon’s actions in the last month,” said Jim Liberatore, CEO and President of Outdoor Sportsman Group Networks. “It should concern all Americans that one company can silence the only relevant voice of an entire industry with the flip of a switch."

This move means that Verizon FiOS customers will miss out on our great NRA All Access, NRA Gun Gurus, and American Rifleman programming.

In a notice to its subscribers, Verizon stated that the move was a response to rising content costs and was made in an effort to lower customers' monthly bills. Additionally, they suggest viewers tune into Discovery, Nat Geo Wild and History to find "similar content."

We don't think you'll be able to find the same quality outdoor content for hunters, sport shooters, anglers, and other outdoor enthusiasts on these channels — especially not our shows.

So what can you do? Contact Verizon FiOs at (800) 837-4966, let them know how you feel about quality outdoor programming being dropped, and demand they add Outdoor Channel back to their packaging.

"We feel that this discussion has been blown out of context. I will be the
first to admit that my choice of words was too strong. Instead of saying
that I was "unwilling," perhaps I should have said that I was "unable" to
create an association between Cape Union Mart and KZN Hunting and
Conservation Association. Everyone knows that hunting is a sensitive
subject, and as the marketing department we are in the difficult position of
trying to bear all of our varied customers in mind. This responsibility
results in us frequently declining requests for sponsorship and discounts.
This includes many conservation associations and environmental trusts. We
support organizations based on our marketing endeavors of that time. When I
refer to "potential negative exposure" this is not to say that Cape Union
Mart feels that hunting is a bad thing. What it means is that we have to
consider those customers who are strongly against hunting.

If you examine my original email, I make no reference to Cape Union Mart
considering hunting as an inappropriate activity. Some members of the
hunting community have voiced their unwillingness to shop at our stores
"until Cape Union Mart realises you can have a positive involvement with the
hunting / outdoors people." We feel this is unfair. We in no way indicated
that we did not appreciate the patronage of hunters and outdoor lovers. The
Outdoors is our business, and the outdoor community is one that we respect
greatly. If every single outdoor organization that we declined sponsorship
to threatened to stop visiting our stores, we would all be out of work! It
is a great pity that we cannot support every single sponsorship/discount
request, but it is even more of a pity when a misunderstanding such as this
is created as a result.

I really hope that you will understand our position. I have received many
angry emails asking whether I am an "anti-hunting vegetarian." I assure you
that I enjoy my meat.

I wish to apologise to all members of the hunting community who have been
led to believe that Cape Union Mart does not support hunting. As I said
before, this is not the case. "

I can sympathize with this position, and I can even agree with it, from a business perspective. You don't have to come out publicly in support of hunting (though I wish you would), but equally you cannot come our publicly against hunting. That's in fact where most people are in the world. Not exactly in favour of our sport, but not against it either.

The hotels in Canada which cancelled the African Safari Show did in fact take a position, and it was against hunting. So they lose, and belong on the list of businesses to avoid.

Cape Union Mart, whatever it is, seems to me should not be on the list of places to avoid.

At first I was surprised to see Back Country Hunters and Anglers on this list, but I checked the websites of a few reputable conservation organizations like Boone and Crockett, SCI, and the Wild Sheep Foundation, and sure enough, BCHA has been removed from all affiliate and partner lists(I could have sworn I saw it on a few of them previously). I was also surprised to see Gerber Knives on the list, but since I don't buy their cheesy knives anyway, it's no big loss.

Thanks, Marius... I will follow this story closely from now on and see whether or not they mean what they say... or I take my business elsewhere. Not that it will break them, BUT I do spend an awful amount of money on boots, GPS stuff, torches & gadgets, socks etc... wife's bush ware... my clothes are too big for CUM stock... they never have my size!!

This really pissed me off as I don't have a choice!! I called and complained and have begged them to bring it back. What really stinks is I was paying extra for the service anyway.

Dish or DirectTV?

NBA wants to take away our guns.

As soon as they dropped the outdoor and sportsman channels I canceled my account and had no choice but to go back to cable:(.

TV is a dying medium anyway. Check out what you can get online - apple TV etc. I actually hate TV for the mind numbing garbage they peddle. It is the modern day "opium of the masses" - sermon concluded lol

Thanks. Hate to take a stand! 75% of my tv viewing is hunting. What can I say!
