SOUTH AFRICA: Elephant Hunt With Paw Print Safaris 2015

In this photo they were using the tractor to lift the front right leg so they could get the foot and leg bone removed for trophy prep. The job would have taken much much longer had the tractor not been available.

Stug I think those guys would have been there all day had they not had the machine! This was a lot of work.

Ten Thousand villagers are used elsewhere. :)

In the gun check room in Atlanta, did it look like they were recording serial numbers in the computer?

Yep they were in fact recording serial numbers and taking a scan of your passport !

My last trip they were typing the serial numbers into the computer as well... But I'm not all that shy at times and brought it up that it was not legal for them to record serial numbers of my guns... They replied that they were not recording serial numbers but rather checking that the guns were not stolen.

When you think of the logic behind that, yea they would surely have serial numbers in their system of guns stolen in Africa and brought back here????

I really wonder how many stolen guns are found being brought through the airport and checked through the gun room?

Personally I feel this is some form of back door registration. They did the background check on the serial number when we got the 4457. All they really need to do is match the gun number to the number on the 4457. Unless they are afraid we robbed a convenience store with our 470 NE to finance our Africa trip.

Big Brother?

That's what it looks like to me and that is why I asked questions but they had their answers ready... Good coaching?

Note the size of the blackstrap that came out of this big guy!

Insurance shot put into the top of the bull's head. It wasn't needed but it was the protocol. At the end of the day this was the greatest hunt I have ever been on and I would do it again.

That picture really gives some interesting perspective to how dang big those animals are...

Leopard next Charlie?

Royal I do hope to hunt old spots one day. I am hopeful Pieter can get some quota in the next couple of years. Most likely couldn't do it in 2016 but look out 2017.
We talked about it while in Rustenburg and Pieter knows I want to hunt spots.

The Nature Conservancy report reads
1st shot Brain shot elephant fell down
2nd shot Chest shot elephant did not move
3rd shot Brain shot elephant did not move

I follow my instructions from the Pros.....and Pieter said to put a round through the top of the elephants head so I did. Insurance!

Received this picture just now from Mike at Capricorn Taxidermy, the tusks are out of the skull! WOW they sure look great to me!
Just think,,,, in a few months they will be in my den!

Guys I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Should I just have Mike leave the Tusks as they are or clean them up a bit more! Edward, Wheels, Action Bob what did you have done?

I gotta say I think they are awesome the way they are. I like the stains but at the end of the day it's what ever you like best.

Charlie,

They are beautiful!:)

Since you asked, personally I like the mud and blood off and that is all the cleaning I want. The stains/minor tartar build up just add character.(y)

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
