My SIL got his undergraduate degree at Yale in psychology. He knew he wanted to get into law school and wanted a major that he could ace not to mention help him in law practice.
He met my daughter at Harvard law school. Interestingly they never met while at Yale.

Now, my daughter dual majored in political science and English. She did suggest to me that she could work at Wall Street making 6 figures (2007) and help financially before attending law school. I told her no as I felt once she got out of the academic environment, living a normal life it would make it hard to go back and she’d lose momentum. Not to mention low six figures is barely existing in Manhattan. When she started at Wachtell, Lipton at $160K a year in 2010 she had two roommates as she could not afford rent by herself. When working 70-80 hours a week she couldn’t spend commute time from a cheaper location.

To make long story short an undergraduate philosophy degree from an Ivy league school could have value if there is a goal.

Yes, very expensive in NYC. My daughter got her Masters in Political Science at Columbia University after internships with the Colorado Governor’s Office and the US State Department in Rome. She met her husband at Columbia University while he was finishing up his undergraduate degree there on the GI Bill after serving six years in the US Army and receiving the Purple Heart Medal while fighting and being wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is from Buffalo and enlisted after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She now works for a US Government agency in Manhattan and he works for a hospital health care company. They have three young daughters and have a three-bedroom place in the new Brooklyn Tower. It’s just a ten minute commute to Manhattan for them but I don’t think they have much disposable income leftover. I’m hoping they move out of there and come to Colorado someday.

OK, for those of you that think Trump has not completely lost his mind, can you please explain to me what he is up to regarding the Falkland Islands? Is he just trying to encourage a war that will take our attention off whatever you want to call the situation in Iran?

@WAB I looked over a few things and I think I know what Trump is upto with the Falkland Islands.

Look at it through the perspective of a real estate developer like Trump is at heart, I think he sees growth potential in the "market" of Argentina and by market I believe he's wanting to build up an ally in the Southern hemisphere; so he's building up the confidence in Argentina by making such statements and simultaneously ribbing the U.K. for being a hollow shell of the world naval power they once were.

Javier Milei's theatrics appeal to Trump's personality and you have to give it to president Milei he not only has the theatrics but also the intellect to go with it; he came in and cut inflated government, nearly clubbed "woke" to death like a seal and above all got Argentina to a position where it made the first payment to debt principle in the decades since their bond defaults in the early 2000's....as I understand it.

Argentina also recently(Dec 2025) took possession of six F-16 fighters of a total of 24 purchased from Denmark with assistance from the U.S.A. and I think that's a good thing having ally with super sonic jets as a part of strengthening their military power and boosting the overall self image of the nation by merely implying that Argentina is gaining stature in the world power market

So in summation, I think it's just a pat on the back to Milei while being able to get a shot in at the UK and it's naval readiness or lack thereof as well as their reluctance or inability to assist with Iran; and yes also to distract from that same conflict as we see news reals appear online of sailors from the Lincoln enjoying much deserved RNR in Bangkok.

Really? You actually believe Trump has the intellectual capacity to think that tactically? Come on! This is a guy who actually believed it might be possible to cure COVID by injecting disinfectant. He thought he could run for a third term. He actually believed he should be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump continues to say and do crazy stupid nonsense bullshit day after day with nothing but disastrous results, and still somehow there's an objective plan behind it all? At some point anyone with half a brain must conclude Donald Trump actually really is a stupid bullshitter who makes no sense. How much longer are we going to have to wait before his actions all fall together and make some sense? Upsetting liberals with bizarre behavior is supposed to be somehow productive. I’m not a fan of trump by any means but this one is a justified reaction. Alcohol sales in Canada are provincially regulated so for example in Nova Scotia where I live the only legal supplier of alcohol is the provincial liquor stores giving them a monopoly. Most Canadian provinces pulled American liquor off the shelves at the beginning of the trade war. I haven’t been able to buy American alcohol sense march of last year.

@WAB if you do make it to Nova Scotia this year take pity on my poor bar and bring me some buffalo trace and wild turkey. I’ll gladly reimburse you for your troubles, I’m a big fan of Canadian whiskey but they just don’t make a whiskey sour come out right.

My guess is Americans drink a whole lot more Crown Royal than Canadians drink Jack Daniel’s and Tito’s Vodka.. and the US distillers have already figured out how to deal with the shrink associated with the Canadian market..

I think it will be a whole lot harder for the Canadian distilleries to adjust… they’re losing a significantly larger market…

Americans that drink crown are typically very loyal to the brand.. but if it becomes inaccessible or priced higher than the true “premiums” brands, there are lots of American ryes to turn to…

While I hate to see anyone (US included) expanding trade with China… this is awesome for RSA agriculture… not just the cherry deal, but the fact that they’ve struck 4 ag related deals that open markets and expand ag businesses for them…
