Which Calibre Should Be Consigned to the Grave

I feel that the 9.3x66 Sako really could have been something great if loaded properly from the start, and it would have been an incredible case to wildcat if brass were readily available. Alas, it seems to have been outclassed on all fronts.

So is this one

25-06 on left, 25 Stalker on the right. Necked down and improved 300 norma. 135 Berger at 3800fps+, 101 LRX at 4100+

I can’t help but admit I want one. No need, I just like wacky things like that, especially in 25 cal. I also wanted a 25wssm when they came out but didn’t because of some of their weird design decisions for it (super thick neck, to little case taper for that short of a case, double stack feeding rather than single stack causing feeding issues, short head height, etc)

The 600 overkill already exists. Just in case you want to push a 900gr .62" bullet at 2300fps.

I almost bought one years ago. My thought was to load it at normal 600 NE levels.

The one benefit of the 6.5 CM is that its made the 243 obsolete and unnecessary.
@Art Lambart II
The 243 was never necessary.
It was just the Winchester bullshit advertising convinced people they needed it.
The 250 Savage and the Roberts were doing quite nicely up until then thank you very much.

Brilliant we had a guy down Africa way with a 30-378

anyhow he had a thing for black wildebeest - brilliant, everyone dead on contact but that thing I declined a shot from it and I have a 505 Gibbs - my buddy took a shot - and regretted it.

Weatherby in Weatherby calibres usually idiots but this guy was amazing !

The .30-378 was originally designed by Roy Weatherby as an anti-personnel/anti-materiel military cartridge for a government contract.[4] The cartridge was created by necking down the .378 Weatherby Magnum to accept a .308 in (7.8 mm) diameter bullet. The United States Army's Redstone Arsenal requested a rifle cartridge that could develop 6,000 ft/s (1,800 m/s) for the effects of light bullets against armor. The .30-378 Weatherby Magnum was able to attain over 5,000 ft/s (1,500 m/s). Using a slower burning and denser propellant, the .30-378 Weatherby Magnum surpassed the US Army's requirement of 6,000 ft/s (1,800 m/s).[5]
I have to agree. I killed a Jacob four-horn sheep and my largest whitetail deer ever with a borrowed 30-378. Lots of damaged meat. The scope on my rifle went out of zero and couldn't be corrected, so I had to use one of the guide's extra rifles. Long range only, nothing else.

The 350L has one good point low recoil.
About 1/2 of a 243 and it’s a heavier bigger bullet that works well for new shooter’s.
We have stared a buch of kids with one this year makes 7 they all been able to shoot them fine.
And all have killed there first deer with it

Having thought and reflexed on this question and also not wanting to read all of replies I have selected the following cartridges, both of which I like.

The 260 Remington. It was a cartridge that didn’t make a whole lot of sense other than it fit a short action. The 264 wm is fine cartridge. The 6.5 man bun has regulated the 260 to obscurity. Maybe 6.5 PRC will do the same for the 6.5 Needmore.

The 338 Marlin Express. It is a great cartridge for a lever gun. But rifles Where only made for 3 years.

I have reflected on the 243, it does have a place in this world. It brings us much good reading from the responses of Bob Nelson 35 Wheelen.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
