New lipsey's ruger alaskan bush rifle in 9.3x62 and 35 whelen

Picked mine up in 9.3x62 this evening. I usually do not care for laminate stocks and was expecting to replace it with a B&C, but it really is a nicely done laminate. We’ll see…
The open sights are perfect (as long as POI is correct), rear is not height adjustable. No big deal, NECG sells different height front sights if need be.
CHECK YOUR Action screws! My rear-most trigger guard screw was not even finger tight. The threads were also covered in lubricant (which can cause over-torque & stretch). I’m glad I had not shot the rifle, this is something I always check.
Pleased so far, just need to shoot it tomorrow. Interested to see velocity difference in the 20” barrel compared to my other 9.3’s.

Got mine today at lunch. Very nice laminated stock. Good trigger, Feeds and ejects ammo perfectly. Will check the action scews and mount a scope tomorrow.

Going to shoot it thursday or friday.

Pleased so far. I love the iron sights and they line ip perfectly when I bring the rifle up.

Will shoot a wild boar as soon as I get the chance, Should not take long to find one around here.

Well… I had less rifles and ammo than I thought at the house. Turns out my father has the 22.75” Ruger African and my box of 250gr TSX handloads. They run about 2600fps out of that rifle and I really wanted to see the velocity difference in the 20” with those loads. Side Note: My penetration tests from the past showed the 250 TSX out penetrates all other softs I tested which were: 286gr TSX, 270gr Speer, 286 gr Interlock, 300gr Woodleigh, 320gr Woodleigh.
But I still had my 23.5” JP Sauer & Sohn pre-war Mauser and some Hornady factory 286gr SP’s to use as comparison. This factory ammo is pretty WEAK but at least we can see the velocity loss, and it really is minimal: 58fps with the 20” Ruger.
I shot (6) rounds through each gun over my Garmin Xero chrono. The (6)-round FPS averages below:

20” Ruger Alaskan Bush: 2198fps average

23.5” JP Sauer Mauser: 2156fps average

I only shot at 50yds today and the Ruger had all holes touching on both (3)-round groups. I threw a spare Leupold fixed 2.5x scope in the factory rings for the testing. Pleased with these results.

Factory open sights were 1” low at 50yds with this ammo, but I do tend to “bury” the front bead in the “V” (rear sight).
My rifle weighed 7lbs 13.4oz without optic.

Can someone explain to me the Lipsey sales game?

They announce on their podcast this past weekend that they have rifles to ship out now.

I call my LGS and ask them to order me one of each - "they are on allocation - our rep doesn't work on SAT - they will call us on TUE (LGS closed on MON)".

I go to the LGS on TUE and they graciously accommodate my groveling request to get me the rifles - they call Lipsey's and are told that none are available. It will be about 2 more weeks before they have them to sell.

I have a buddy check GunBroker while I am driving back home and there are over a dozen vendors that have the rifles. I get them on order from these other vendors.

I get home and find a call back from another gunshop. I call and reassure the guy that I still want the rifles. He had sold the pair he had (90 minutes too late), but he calls Lipsey and is told their next allocation will come in in about 2 weeks.

So does Ruger only make, say, 200 at a time? Then when those sell out, they make another 200? How many will Ruger make total? 1,000? 10,000? Does anyone have a contact that can explain this mess?

Yeah, I'm trying to figure this one out too. I called today, to the only dealer in Canada that has a chance of getting them in. I am on their wait list, # 32 to be exact. They are only going to be allocated 6 of the 9.3 version. 6. In the whole country.

I sold our 4 units in 36 hours.
3 on gunbroker. Let the market determine price. That's how a free system works.
Price gouging is the act of dramatically increasing the price of essential goods and services during a time of emergency or disaster.
While nice, The Alsakan Bush ain't essential and you not getting one doesn't rate as an emergency.
If a buyer wants to pay $2k or 20k, that's the market price. While it may seem unsavory it's what it is.
I'm just glad to see that after 100 years the 9.3 is being produced, especially by an American company.
I would have like ruger to opted for the guide configuration on the barrel so that a moderator could be installed.
Earlier this year we also had the #1 RSI in 9.3 and the KS1 in 35.
I'm a big fan of the medium bore rifles and am expecting the new 358 winchester hunter 16" threaded rifle to be a big seller when it arrives.

I’m not irritated at the dealers who mark them up, or even the people that buy them and relist them for a higher price.

Lipseys is irritating for their irregular sales. Number one I know I’ll never get one, my volume is nowhere near the level needed to get one.

But it seems they’re making tiny numbers of stuff people want, while flooding the market with others. 250 each of the .275 rigby. 250 of the 9.3x62 African. 250 of the 6.5x55.

Though not as popular of a caliber I KNOW they had to have produced over 500 each of the .270 and .35 Whelen Africans.

They generally do runs or 250. If lipsey’s requests it to be a one time order they are serialized. Being that this run is non serialized, I imagine they’re expecting to sell out fast and do more runs of this.

There is probably 250 of each chambering available, although 250 total is also possible, being half and half on chamberings. Lipseys is a distributor not a seller, so they send out their initial batches, and then keep some stock for other places than their biggest sellers to order from.

They usually don’t do podcasts with semi famous YouTubers to announce a one time thing either, so while I don’t expect it to be a permanent fixture in their inventory, I do expect it’ll be available several times in the next year or two, if not longer.

As soon as i saw the promoted video, I placed an email to Prophet river. Turns out I'm the first to inquire and place an order on one. Pretty excited to get this rifle in my hands.

Perhaps Ruger should take notes and actually offer this configuration and cartridges going forward. Clearly there is a market, especially if there were 32+ interested in Canada alone. That could have been about 72,000$ Cad in sales alone right there.

Congratulations on jumping on in there right away. I wish I had done so as well.
I sent off an enquiry to Lipsey's asking them if there were any other Canadian importers of their products. Nothing back so far.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
