Interesting article on the new development of Anti Venom using nanobodies from Llama's and Alpaca's.
It's supposedly supposed to work for 17 species, including Cobra's and Mamba's.
Could be cheaper to produce, and longer lasting without refrigeration?

Waiting for the anti-vax crowd to weigh in on anti-venom.
Not really fair to compare the two imo. By my own stupidity I took a bite from a Southern Pacific rattlesnake 3 years ago (2nd behind a Mojave for venom potency). Was a full on neurological reaction. Used 3 units of antivenin (10 vials per unit) over the course of 24hrs to stop the progression of the swelling. Shocking how well it worked!!
With regards to vaccines, in general I'm torn. Im not against them, but I dont like the idea of them being forced on me or required, especially at the "recommended schedule" for babies/toddlers. Since autism can be genetically tested for in utero (from my understanding anyway) I dont believe vaccines cause that, but there's reasonable evidence to suggest there are negative side affects for some folks.
For people allergic to sheep, horses, llamas etc, antivenin can cause serious issues because of how it's manufactured. That aside, it really does save lives!

IDK, if you’re bitten by a mamba or cobra do you really give a damn about any adverse reaction to anti-venom?

There's a lot more (as in a mountain of) evidence PROVING there are negative consequences for those who DON'T get vaccinated. Which way do you want to roll the dice? Personally, I don't think kids in school should be rolling the dice with others health. Keep them home and school them there if you want to roll the dice. That will work wonders for their mental/social development. A proven side effect. As far as I know, there is no genetic code for autism generally. Absolutely no scientific proof that vaccines or Tylenol have anything to do with autism. In fact, a study in Sweden with a two million database proved without a doubt that there is no relationship whatsoever between Tylenol and autism. RFK Jr has a wild imagination and no brains. His boss is equally nonendowed. A great mystery to me how those two can survive egg on their face thick enough to kill most of us mortals (e.g. drinking disinfectant). I would be embarrassed to death. Those two are totally unphased. Amazing.

Being one who enjoys being alive, I am grateful for modern medicine, including vaccines, especially vaccines against very deadly diseases such as polio and pneumococcal pneumonia to name but two of the several.

However having said that, it appears to me that although Covid was / is a real flu bug, nonetheless the whole Covid thing was extremely over blown.
To this day, I still sometimes see people wearing a surgical mask here and there around Anchorage.
I presume these people are suffering mental illness of one description or another.
I have even seen a person wearing one while driving their car on the highway, with no passenger/s in there with the masked driver.

Back on topic, fortunately no loved ones except one uncle of mine has ever been bitten by a poison snake and he survived (via rapid application of antivenin).
He was bitten on the foot by a copperhead (poison snake, all too common in some parts of N. America).
Myself and my wife have so far not been bitten by any venomous serpent.

But my wife and myself have encountered quite a few assorted ones during our travels through N. America, Central America, South America and two African countries so far.
The latest antivenin advancement mentioned by the OP is very encouraging.
We are happy to learn of it’s potential.

Leave it up to some, to derail a perfectly good thread over something that has nothing to do with anti- venom.

Hi Brent in AZ,

I plead guilty, with a request for leniency.
Hyper active people, like me for one example often talk too much (especially me for another example).
But with my derailment apology to yourself and all others, hopefully my previous post today did not cause anyone too much distress.

I’ll try harder to not derail another thread, for at least a couple more hours.

Cheers,
Velo Dogo.

It wasn't you I was referring to.

I wasn't an anti-vaxer 5 years ago but I am now after seeing how the wanna-be authoritarians use the COVID to bully people. So, here's one of the anti-vax crowd weighing in...

Being anti-vax doesn't make me anti-antivenom...

It does sound like a promising break through.
I know that if I was to get bit by a Copperheaded Rattle Moccasin or a Black Puff Cobra I will take what ever they got, Tiger Pee, Lama micro what ever, doesn’t matter give the shot.
