That actually looks like an African civet, a tabby cat or skinny long legged raccoon. Shame it’s so blurry.

I’ve seen jagurundi in south Alabama, my father and I watched one for about 15 minutes down near the bay. The area biologist believed us as he thought he had seen one as well. Nothing ever came of it though.

I think he took it coming out of the woods on a turkey hunt
It was better on his phone before he sent it to mine. It was when I was using a track phone I had it transferred to this thing.
Looked a lot like a otter but was no where near the water. There was a club in the edge of ga that said the saw one multiple times

I think it and a lot of stuff seen
Are from the lax laws of animal possession pre 70’s
And then all the hurricane letting animals out of there pens.

Supposed to be a small heard of water buff out down south.
But no one I know has heard anything but stories about them.

The state passed a law that says you can shoot any non native deer. Because so many were out a few years ago form high fence place after storms.

The head doesn’t look anything like a “Housecat’

Our Feral cats grow big but it’s possibly survival of the fittest and good genetics passed on.

We have a few areas that are rumoured to have Bi Cats or Black Panthers. But the photos are never that close or that clear.

The theory behind ours are Panthers kept as mascots from US servicemen that were released. But the sightings are few and the details are sketchy

That is a Florida Black Panther. Looks exactly like a mountain Lion, except Jet Black. Regardless of what Florida Game & Fish acknowledges, that is what the pictured cat is. Whoever took the picture is very fortunate. I’d love to see one.

There are stories of "black panthers" all over the southeastern US, but one have never been found dead or killed.

A couple of years ago, I got a report of a TIGER on the loose. (I work for a state game agency).

I, actually, got exited about this, potential adventure!

I drove home and grabbed a Winchester Model 70 in .375 H&H and a handful of "tiger" cartridges.

I got a licensed zookeeper in my truck and had a veterinarian (with tranquilizer instructions from his "big cat" professor from vet school, and another rifle of his own) on standby, as I awaited further instructions....

The exact location of the "tiger" never came in.

It eventually got dark, and we called off the "tiger" hunt.

Apparently, an older couple had seen a bobcat and over reacted...

Dang, just dang!

I like controversy among state biologists, just for kicks & giggles!

I also know 5 men who have seen cougars in Georgia. (I've heard one twice in the 80's).

3 were Department of Natural Resources employees...

I have seen melanistic jaguars, but not leopards or cougars.

Please post a picture of a black leopard or cougar.

I'd really like to see one.

As @Safari Dave said, just about everyone has a “black” panther story in the south. Problem is no one has ever produced a carcass or skin of one. My belief is that since most are seen in extreme low light the dark tan fur actually looks black. Just as deer appear almost black when they step out at dusk. Just my 2 cents.

I am close enough to Ga. Any cat here could be in ga. In less than 5-10 minutes with no problem. The pic of the other cat could just cross the rd and be in Ga.
I have seen normal Panthers many times they never looked black.
I have seen the normal panther in the panhandle where they say there no Panthers at all.

In apaloche wma I saw one put a bucket over the track. Went and got the guy from the check station. He called I am guessing a Boligest in.
I took him to the bucket. He looked then drug his foot over the track and said there no Panthers in the panhandle. That was back in 00.

But who knows what the Panthers will do.
They say the fl vs is a subspecies and they brought in true mt lions to breed with them.
In cows I have seen crosses do some strange thing to looks of cattle.

How many normal panther bodies have you come across in the fl woods? Or bear for that matter?
I have never seen a cat body or bones
1 bear but that was also where we hunted bear.
And only maybe 10 complete deer bodies
There are millions of deer a few thousand bear
And there officially what a few hundred cats?
+ if any one decide to shoot one there not going to say anything about killing a endangered spices especially a non normal color one.
I had a game warden tell me there no such thing as a black panther. I said the next time I see one then I will shoot it because if that the case it’s not a panther so it would be legal.
He side of you do and don’t have claw marks on your ass you will be under the jail.

So who knows

I know. My aunt said there was a wild cat that was bigger than a bobcat and had a tail
But was smaller that a panther.
That no one really talked much about.

I think it was some of the Jaguarundi.
She was born in the mid 20’s so she was around when they were supposed to have been released and fl was still wild in her childhood

I agree @Flbt, I’ve come across a handful of deer carcasses in the woods and they don’t last long. My point was that someone would shoot one or one would be hit on the highway. I have seen a couple of road killed cougars in California but they have a high density population in some areas.
I fully believe that there are scattered cougars in the southeast just not black ones.

I don’t know. Some say in fl anyway that it could be a black wolf that has not completely died out.
You know if you look at some of our deer there are dark ones and lighter color ones
The dark ones up here are normally heavier and have bigger antlers.
And the panther are more at home in water.
So wet fur with dark creek water (tannin from leaf decay)
Could look black
Or the same decay makes a black rich dirt

I know if your on a 4 wheller and get in that mess everything gets a black tenge to it.

So that could be the simple answer.
I really don’t know
I have seen a good amount of Panthers and one with cubs ( chaseing a deer)
I have seen some dark color something but most of that was to far away to say for sure what it was . Like all the way across a clear cut in a wma.

That’s one of the good things of being color blind
I know I can’t give exact details about the color of anything lol

Panther is a group name but we as civilians mostly call the Black ones & leopards in India Panthers .

Americans seem to have endless names for Cougars/Mt Lions must be over 10 ?

It is stated by many animal experts that you can’t get Black Lions or Puma but who knows, I know I’ve never seen or heard of one or a Black Caracal.
Strangely have seen or heard of Black Golden Cats (like a long tailed Caracal) in West Africa & Black Clouded Leopards in Indonesia, Black Serval rarely but about.

I know I’d love to shoot a Black Leopard (or Jaguar) but unfortunately only semi common in Ethiopia or Kenya in Africa some in India & common in lots of Asian countries, either far too expensive or no hunting allowed.

I think Black Jaguars are not rare either ?

@Sarg, I read in a book, it may have been Sasha Semiels book “the Last Tigereo” or something similar that black jaguars are not all that rare and he claimed he could tell the difference in their roaring.
Not 100% sure if that’s the book or not.
Looking back at the original picture from @Flbt and your pictures I’m leaning towards jaguar.

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
