I'm thinking of doing a buffalo skull mount. I don't prefer the skull mounts on the wall where you have the Birds Eye view looking down on the horns from above. It seems to really emphasize the boss, but you lose the view of the drops and the horn tips.

I'm thinking of a buffalo skull mounted on a pedestal, positioned as if he's at a natural height, looking right at you (the way they do......) The alternate plan would be to do a skull mount on a wall plaque, but with some kind of wedge or shim that would tilt the skull up so you see him nose first.......

Haven't fully decided if it would be better to do this as a hair mount or a skull mount. I really like skull mounts in general, and it will probably take up less floor space without the full shoulder.

If I go with skull mount, I don't see any reason not to have that done in Africa, but if there's hair involved I will probably have it done in the US.

I'm seeking thoughts on the above, and especially any photos that would be along the lines of what I'm describing, that I could share with the taxidermy company as inspiration to get on the same wavelength.

The buffalo in question is the one from my avatar; he was just shot this year and is still in Africa at the moment.

Thanks for any input or advice.

I don’t remember where I found these pictures. My apologies I cannot give credit to the owners of the pictures.

Im getting mine done to sit more like this, but be a wall mount instead of tabletop. The taxidermist had this in their shop, and I told them to build it as a wall version.

Im thinking they will juat build an L-brace connection between the board the skull sits on and the part that will mount to the wall.

I like how it looks on the Zulu shield in post above.

Looks like it’s mounted on a piece of leadwood? Maybe an old railroad sleeper?
Original / refinished SA railroad tie as done by Bullseye Taxidermy.

The top picture of the floor pedestal is my work. I did that piece for a fellow AH’r.
Love the way you left space for a display at the base of the pedestal. Nicely done!

Take a look at these two. Unfortunately I cannot recall where I found these photos and can therefore give due credit neither to the taxidermist nor to the owner, but consider them food for thought.

First one: On a carved shield; just need to adjust the angle to suit your preferences.

Second one shows a shoulder mount on a cast-metal (aluminum?) pedestal. In your case, you would use a Euro mount adjusted to the appropriate angle.

Very possible that the original photos came from AH, so perhaps someone will recognize them and provide further information. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
