Just for fun, enjoy! It's a lot more than just gel

The flash is certainly curious. I wonder what would cause that.
It’s air compression. If it compresses fast enough you reach the flash point of the atmosphere. The leading shock sits just off the nose of a flat nosed bullet and creates a pocket that compresses and then ignites as it approaches a barrier. Same thing occurs when the wound channel compresses after the initial shock. This is what happens in a diesel motor but with diesel fuel mixed into the “atmosphere.”

There is some chat on this forum about the old style 4 bore etc. Well, for some context....

Enjoy

I’m actually surprised he didn’t break his finger on the trigger guard if the explanation they gave for floor plate release is actually what happened.

Cavitation
the cavitation is both obvious and well documented throughout ballistics science. I am referring the the initial flash of light seen immediately prior to the bullet entering the gel It is discussed in the video but no explanation is given. See the image below. I suspect there is a momentary change in the amorphous structure of the gel leading to a change in the refractive index of the material. At the time the video initially came out I did some research into it but couldn’t find a definitive answer.

The force of the bullet should propagate through the material at 1500m/s, meaning in the single frame this flash was captured the forces could have compressed on the molecular scale the whole block spreading out from the point of contact, similar to what is shown in the image. This could lead to a slight change in the refractive index, so light naturally passing through the block is reflected off at a different angle, leading the block to momentarily appear less clear than it previously was.

You can see the bullet turning in the ballistic gel, cutting grooves as it goes along.
