It’s air compression. If it compresses fast enough you reach the flash point of the atmosphere. The leading shock sits just off the nose of a flat nosed bullet and creates a pocket that compresses and then ignites as it approaches a barrier. Same thing occurs when the wound channel compresses after the initial shock. This is what happens in a diesel motor but with diesel fuel mixed into the “atmosphere.”The flash is certainly curious. I wonder what would cause that.
