What are you reading?

Under the African Sun by Dr Frank Hobbes.

Read it before and it’s a pretty good read , mostly about East Africa with a little Botswana thrown in.
The guy that wrote this is Dr Frank Hibben, freaking spell check.

I am going to be honest and say I don’t read novels or books. I go to the gym or plant food plots or go hunting or fishing.
I read enough at work via contracts and emails. lol.

I have many of the books mentioned in this thread, which I read and then re-read. Maybe my memory isn't what it once was--sometimes I almost feel like a re-read is the first time!

Currently reading/re-reading the Gospel of Matthew and have found a much greater appreciation for the Good Word than I had as a child

Last African book I read was Heart of an African Hunter by Peter Flack, great assembly of his various hunting experiences

That’s not reading that’s called work and it rarely equates to pleasurable. Reading is usually relaxing. ;)

I just finished "Shotguns and Shooting" by Michael McIntosh yesterday. Excellent book if you enjoy shotguns. I also ordered "Baagh Shikar: The Art Of Hunting The Royal Bengal Tiger" and can't wait to give that a read. In the meantime, I will start on "How I Killed the Tiger: Being an Account of My Encounter with a Royal Bengal Tiger" by Frank Sheffield.

I just finished Carpet Sahib, it filled in a lot of details about Corbett's life is didn't know. However, shockingly, reading about his adventures as a hardware store owner, is not quite as exciting as his own stories of hunting maneaters. :)

I just started "Surely Youre Joking Mr Feynman" by Richard Feynman. Stories of his life and education and some really eye opening parts about working on The Bomb at Los Alamos. Its easy to forget how incredibly far tech has come since the 1940s. They didn't even have a calculator!

Boddington, Accurate Rifles and Riflemen.

Pretty sound with clean writing style.

"The Making of THE AFRICAN QUEEN" or "How I Went To Africa with Bogart, Bacall and Huston and almost lost my mind"
Authored by Katherine Hepburn
She was a local gal in Old Saybrook CT most of her life.

Just started Soul of the Leopard. Stuck into One Second After.

If you have not read Mahfouz’ Cairo Trilogy, I imagine you would enjoy. The books tell the story of a family in the old quarter with the changes in Egypt, and across the Arab world, superimposed on the family of this kind, dutiful father who lives long enough to see his family impacted by so much change.

I was given a copy when I was in my teens, and it is what began my fascination with the Middle East. That eventually led to the Defense Language Institute for Arabic, Foreign Service Institute for Arabian Peninsula Dialect, and a fellowship at the Walsh School, Contemporary Arab Studies, Georgetown - and a lot of time mucking around the Arab World.

I can't imagine why it would be on some sort of restricted list.

Has anyone read this one? Relatively new.

I read it. I like McIntyre’s writing style. I believe it was pubbed after he passed. I remember thinking that he was better in magazines, working with a compressed format. Still, always fun to read about the animals we love to hunt.

Great thread. I'm trying to get more into proper reading - not the work ‘reading’ that I’ve done too much off in the past.

Currently enjoying FC Selous' Wanderings ...

I coincidently stumbled on a short YT video on his life - that was a little bit light on, but interesting.

Also currently reading Rigby Resolution

“Dominion, The making of the Western mind” by Tom Holland.

Started it sometime ago, but picking it back up to finish. A fascinating expose on how Christianity has powerfully influenced western thought in every conceivable area.

Just finished this and it's on it's way to @Trogon.

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc
