I bought this revolver back when I lived in AK for hiking, fishing, etc.. It's mostly sat in my safe since I moved out of AK, so I'd like to sell it to move on to other projects.

This is the stainless steel, 4" barrel Mountain Gun, in .44 magnum. It's in very good condition and currently has a rubber grip installed, but also includes a laminate grip that can easily be installed. I'll also include my chest holster.

If any additional photos are needed, let me know.

I'm currently seeing listing on GN for $1025-$1200 so I'm pricing this one at $1000 plus actual shipping vis Ship My Gun to your FFL.

Thanks for looking.

These are fantastic revolvers. I carried mine in Alaska daily while living there and it's been rebuilt once and just keeps on going. These carry so nicely without being too light like the scandiums.

@mcaustin - very nice reliable and safe revolver. I like mine and was surprised how accurately I could shoot it out to 75’. Before my Alaska Griz hunt I practiced draw & fire at 25’, 50’, and 75’ usually in double action —- which in the New 629s (stupid Key lock versions like mine) has a Very Heavy trigger pull (over 12lbs) but is decent in single action. I know a trigger job can lighten up the trigger pull but for a self defense or Bear defense gun there is No need….the Heavy trigger is fine and could be even safer from accidental discharge (hard to have an “accident” with a 12lb trigger!!). Good luck on your sale

Thanks gents! It really is a nice shooter, and I agree @HankBuck, the double action pull is quite heavy, but certainly shootable. @Green Chile - it's definitely nicer to shoot than the Scandium lightweights!

@mcaustin - I agree the Scandium revolvers are “Brutal” to shoot, they were made only to CARRY —-shoot RARELY and Never practice with….you’d develop a FLINCH so bad it would require a Psycho Therapy to recover from.

Smith just came out with a new version of this revolver that does not have the lock yours has.

I bought one and it’s back at Smith, problems right out of the box.

A person is better off finding a good used one like yours.

Bump for a nice pistol

@Ruraldoc - Agree, older Smith’s (PreLock) usually have a smoother trigger - although some of the Smith “Custom Shop” revolvers are good. Smith was the only major revolver maker that added a ‘Key-Lock’ feature (20+ years ago) and I believe one of their reasons was to limit liability lawsuits if their revolvers were accessed and used illegally, etc.. Since that time S&W has lost sales to Ruger and more recently Colt since they reintroduced their .357 & .44 magnums. I’m glad they removed the ‘Lock’ but their overall Quality and reputational damage still requires improvement.
Until they Fix That —- I’d look for good used S&Ws pre 2000 and especially 1970s-80s

I own the same gun but ‘pre-lock’. Excellent revolvers!

Do you remember the make on that chest holster? Thank you.

It looks like a ManGear Alaska holster
I don't remember the maker, and mine doesn't have any markings on it. It does look like ManGear's is nearly the same, though thay name doesn't ring a bell, but I do seem to remember them being made in AK.

$950 plus shipping.

I have the same holster with no branding on it that i had made for my Ruger Alaskan 454 Casull that is a great rig and im sure it was made in AK. I had a strip of molle sewn down one side for me so that i could put a knife sheath on it or what ever i might want to put on there as well as an easy to access covered pocket that has bullet loops inside. Man Gear came into business according to the super web in 2013 and i had mine made in approx 2005-2008 some time as i had it on all trips since that time. Mine is identical so maybe they started branding their stuff later or ???

Anyway, nice S&W rig thats complete and ready to go....I dont need but might have to have if someone doesnt pony up! YIKES!

At Kalahari Safari, the Small Things Are the Big Things
The thrill of the stalk. The stillness of the wait. The age-old rhythm of the hunt.
It’s not just about the size of the trophy. It’s about the stories that will be told for years.
We believe the memories are the true prize. The small things are the big things.
And we’re proud to offer a hunting experience that honours exactly that.

Not sure your price range. Have a 375 H&H with a muzzle brake. Nice rifle only fired a few times. Also a Mossberg 375 Ruger its been used and shows a few hunts on it.
Two African Safaris Hunted South Africa both times,
9 game animals taken
