Good Gun Deals This Week

@RSL If you want a beat and rusty Whitworth over a new production Winchester Safari. Go for it.

@generalzip I’m glad you’re happy with the Ruger rifle. They probably would clean up with a Rigby and 458 offering. I had a .375 Ruger, sold on here NIB with 4 boxes of ammo for $1k. Ruger rifles in Ruger cartridges just don’t sell or retain their value like a Winchester in .375 H&H or .416 Rem Mag.
Who's to say the Whitworth's would be beat and rusty. Quite a generalization don't you think?
FWIW, I pretty much consider the Portuguese Safari Express rifles to be "in the pattern of a Winchester Safari Express" and not true Winchester rifles. The true Winchesters were built in New Haven, Connecticut USA. So if the offshore made "Winchester Safari Express" is what you want, then go for it.

ya know it’s funny I’ve seen posts of people that own all the “budget” brand big bores like ruger, Winchester, cz550, interarms/whitworth, Brno etc. it seems of all of them the ones they end up keeping are usually a whitworth or Brno 602. Not sure exactly the reason, but I find it interesting with all those choices they actually pick the cheapest one. I found this one recently.

@MontanaGrant

There is clearly rust on the metal. Scrapes and gouges in the fiberglass stock.

My 375 ruger Hawkeye FTW was like 1300 shipped no tax and I’m super happy with it. I don’t know why the 458 cals are so expensive. Just a lack of producing them so there’s less on the market I guess. If Ruger did a run of 458wm or Lott they would clean up I’m sure.

Whole different ballgame reworking stocks, action supports, barrels, and other components to withstand the recoil of 458WM. 39-40 lbs of recoil to 60-70 lbs is quite the jump.

I ended up buying that m70 458. Got a quote for 750 from my smith to fully bed it cut to 20” crown blend a blued thread protector, and move the front sight back properly. His bed jobs alone are 325 and worth every penny. It’s a work of art what he does. Aaron Roberts near Houston. Highly recommend

I've seen the uncommon 7x61 Sharp & Hart mentioned in a few posts. I don't see a lot of Schultz & Larsen rifles from Denmark for sale over here. Since it was an unusual combination, I thought I would mention it just in case someone wanted a unique 7mm alternative for $795.

Some Portuguese assembled Win 70 Safari Express are good, some need some attention. My purchase of 3 rifles in the last 4 years has been good.
“Caveat Emptor.”

Congratulations, Cajunchefray, on your success with your purchase of Portuguese assembled Winchesters.

Are the components being made in the USA in SC and shipped to Portugal or made elsewhere? It would be nice to know exactly what's going on.

There's a left-handed Empire Rifles in 300 Win Mag with CRF, a Leupold scope and some nice wood selling later today:

The Winchester FAQ answering your question about Model 70 production on their website is a bit vague:

"Generally, today, key parts are likely sourced worldwide with the rifle made and assembled in Portugal."

Dakota 76 Safari in .375 H&H. Seems a decent buy with scope included.

Edit: Noticing it doesn’t have a fore-end cap or the double crossbolts… is this a Safari model?

Ending today. Early CZ550 in 458 WM. Nice tiger stripes in the wood grain. Still a couple hundred under $2k. Put another crossbolt behind the recoil lug to prevent the splitting that happens in these early models and that will be a pretty rifle for a long time.
Not sure what the reserve was but higher than I was willing to pay.
