Report Scam in AH Classifieds

GOT SCAMMED BY THIS GUY "Lon Cov" EMAIL ADDRESS "loncov54@hotmail.com" FOR SOME AMMO

HE SAID SEND PMT THROUGH PAYPAL FRIENDS & FAMILY TO EMAIL ADDRESS "JRA4.COM8884@GMAIL" - THAT CAME UP AS "JAMES ALLEN" FROM PAYPAL AS A VERIFIED EMAIL ADDRESS.

THEN NEVER HEARD FROM HIM AGAIN AND NO REFUND AVAILABLE WHEN PAID FRIENDS & FAMILY

FROM A DIFFERENT CONTACT EMAIL ADDRESS (STILL ME) HE OFFERED THE SAME AMMO WITH PAYMENT TO BE SENT TO "Todd Reed, 2011 Queens highway, Kerhonkson NY 12446"

THIS GUY IS AN EXPERT - IN THE FIRST CONTACT HE EVEN SAID HE LIVED IN A CITY HERE IN WISCONSIN ABOUT 3 HOURS AWAY, AND OFFERED LOCAL PICK-UP FOR CASH, BUT PREFERRED TO BE PAID THROUGH PAYPAL TO SAVE ME THE DRIVE.

IN THE SECOND CONTACT HE SAID THE SAME THING BUT THIS TIME HE LIVED IN CALIFORNIA AND THE MONEY WAS BEING SENT TO HIS COUSIN IN NEW YORK

I GOT HIS PHONE NUMBER BUT HE DOESN'T ANSWER (769) 225-7144 - IT GOES TO VOICE MAIL AND DOES NOT ALLOW MESSAGES

NOT SURE HOW TO CATCH THIS GUY
@buckstix, No records on AH matched this account Lon Cov and also not that email address loncov54@hotmail.com. Not sure what is going on here, did this person contact you through the PM system?

HE SAW MY WANT AD HERE - BUT NOT SURE HOW HE CONTACTED ME ... I FOUND THIS THREAD BY SEARCHING THE ADDRESS "Todd Reed, 2011 Queens highway, Kerhonkson NY 12446" AND SAW THAT ANOTHER MEMBER HERE SENT PMT TO THE SAME ADDRESS .... JUST WANTED TO WARN ALL BECAUSE THIS GUY IS AN EXPERT SCAMMER - NOW I ALWAYS ASK FOR A PHONE NUMBER AND A PICTURE OF THE SELLER'S DRIVERS LICENSE PLACED NEXT TO THE ITEM I'M BUYING.

Your email is on your website and want to buy ads are an open invitation to getting scammed. Demanding PPF&F is another red flag. Photos, drivers licenses, etc. can be photoshopped edited to look legit.

It was Dabshooter who Dm'd me on the WTB NECG CZ rings and told me to e-mail his friend who had a set that he was sure he would sell, and his e-mail was also Loncov54@hotmail.com. I got suspicious and went back to my DMs and he had deleted it. Both were new members and no posts, that's what raised the flag with me.

I went through the members log last week and found Dabshooter, he didn't have any posts.
This thief is good.

Another red flag, "My buddy has one he'd sell, here's his email address". PSA, it's the same person.

The other often used scam starts - "I am posting this for my buddy or I am selling for a friend".
Never had the go well.

The "helpful" scammer. It works. Be careful everyone.
In a helpful community it makes it easy to hide amongst the decent folks.

this guy ... Andy Rosamilia is a member here ... he sent me a PM in answer to my want ad for a 10.75x68 Mauser ... he sent me pictures of the rifle and wanted $2100 paid via wire transfer ... an obvious scam

the pictures he sent me were from this rifle that sold 2 years ago for $7000

Compromised account? I'm afraid to ask how they do that. I have a hard enough time typing and now we have AI to contend with.

@Paul K thx for bringing up this question for me to clarify.

What is a compromised account?
A compromised account refers to any account that is accessed by an unauthorized user with login details.

We have had a few of these over the years, not very many but it happens that scammers gain access to someone's passwords though data dumps from large scale data breaches (like Facebook, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Target, etc.). The lesson is DO NOT use the same username and/or password for multiple accounts.

Just for your own online safety I would highly recommend reading this: https://www.africahunting.com/threads/ah-malware-scan-comes-back-clean.68672/

Back After a Long Time – Hello Again!

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a member since 2015 but haven’t been active since 2017. Life got busy, especially with building my second business. Still, I’ve kept my passion for hunting and followed things from afar. Now that I have more time, I’m excited to reconnect, contribute, and be part of the community again.

All the best,
ANDY

I'd like a bag of 100. I could actually pick it up since I'm in North Irving, but if you prefer, shipping it is fine.
