I also have a friend in the Letaba ranch (South Africa) area that has just got the go ahead to hunt a 1 trophy Elephant bull from the game department, but this has to be done before the end of September 2014. All included for $40,000

If anybody interested I will get more info, the trophy is exportable to the USA.

Would be a dream hunt for me

Quinn, what happens to the ivory in this deal?

Is it possible to store the trophies until such time as the US might open it back up to import.

What about other trophies? I assume the skull or other bones are off limits as well? Skin panels or ears? How about just the tail?

Interesting question about a later Ivory import.

Zero, Nada, no way, no how!

I'm the guy who would want the tusks so if there was a later import that would be sweet. Bet it will not happen!

Yea I want a pair of tusks as well. Ever since seeing a pair along the wall in hallway of the fine Colonial house we stayed in when hunting the Karoo.

But for $20, 000 difference I am wondering if I could live with a set of very well done replicas? They would need to be customized to be very close to the actuals for me to feel good about them. It would also help if the actual tusks would go towrds a worthy cause... like supporting a local worthwhile communitything like rrestitution for lost crops or to fund a school... Not into some corrupt officials pockets.

I hear you ActionBob the difference in price does make one think.

Yea if there is at least a temorary positive in the USFW action on elephant imports, it would be the additional options it has created for deals.

Hi Guys, just got back from a Buffalo/PG hunt in the Save Valley Conservancy.

Unfortunately it looks like the ivory can not be stored for later export and non of the Elephant product can be exported either. the only alternative is to have very good replicas made.

The area the we hunt is a C.A.M.P.F.I.R.E area, we pay them $10,000 for the Elephant 50% of that goes directly to the village nearest to the where the Elephant was hunted. I know the get the money and i have seen them hand over the hard cash, the village has to produce proof as to how the money is spent wether on school roofing or clinic supplies or pumping water for their vegetable gardens. the other 50% goes towards the upkeep of the CAMPFIRE area.

Quinn thanks for that info. Sounds great that the money goes toworthy causes. What happens to the ivory and hide? Must be value there as well?

Can customized replica tusks be done with the originals as models? If so, at what cost?

Hi ActionBob,
A pair of artificial capped replica tusks will cost about $550 according to T.C.I. Bulawayo 2014 price list.

As for the Hide I know they will buy that from you at about $1.50 - $2.00 per Kilogram, I'm not sure as to how much you get from a bull Elephant but i guess it will pay for the Ivory Replicas.

As for the ivory I'm not sure who will buy it and at what price, they will have to have a ivory dealer license of some sort. last i checked on the Zim Parks and Wildlife website, ivory was going for $170.00 per Kilogram. Maybe the Taxidermy may be able to help.

Hey Quinn,
This all brings up some very interesting senarios in the "Non-import" saga. I know a lot of the elephant hunters in Zim have traditionally been from the US. The ban on importation has to have had a negative impact on the industry (unless the European/Russian market has picked up the slack) I would think that a good selling point to keep US hunters interested would be for the outfitter to set up the sale of the hide/ivory of the trophy taken and also the logistics of the replicas being made. Most hunters probably don't have a clue what it would take to get the replicas made. With the hunter being able to recive the replicas made to their bulls measurements and the sale of the hide and ivory offsetting the costs, maybe more US hunters would continue coming for elephant in Zim. Thoughts??

That is where I was going Buff Buster. Other than wanting to get a lion soon, I sorely tempted to take Quinn up on this! You ready to go?

Mentally??? Hell yeah....financially?? Hell no!...LOL. I would love to be able to do this this year, but two many "irons in the fire". Quinn and Threeways have been on my "short list" for a while. Whoever takes Quinn up on this will not be disappointed.

Hi Guys,
There has be a huge negative impact due to the ivory ban from USFW and we have tried to make a plan and market these Elephant in other counties, But it's not easy as our largest market had been the US for the past 25 years.
I'm with you Buff-Buster, I have contacted TCI and trying and get info on what we can do with the Ivory but due to international embargo we cant sell, Cuan did mention holding ivory until the ban is lifted but will USFW allow sport hunted ivory to be imported that was hunted during the ban IF they lift it?
Replicas are not problem as the Ivory will be registered in your name and sent to TCI to have molds made of them for the Replicas. I have seen some of the replicas in camps and have had to tap them to see if they are real.

Quinn;
How late in the year can these hunts be done?

Keep us informed on the ivory issues.

Bob

Our Permits expire on the 31st December 2014, so any time till then. we are busy till november 15th but do have gaps in-between hunts. will keep you posted on what can be done with the ivory.
