How to finance a Dangerous Game safari?

How to finance safari was frequently discussed on this forum.
One of the ways discussed on the forum was to carefully plan and reduce periodic purchase of cars, and consider second hand cars, and save the money in some period.

But, following way was not mentioned, so I thought I could share.
My friend wanted to hunt buffalo in a wild country.
This costs.

So, his approach was unique and creative. Birthday party management.
When he was approaching 50, he prepared a large birthday party for himself, and invited something between 50 - 70 guests to this event, his friends from hunting community.

On invitation card he told them that he is planning a buffalo hunt, and is accepting cash contributions (in voluntary amount) as birthday present.
So, he made at least a partial funding by this idea. Community supported hunt.
I was also invited.

So, here is the idea for next birthday!

Great idea and I actually have a birthday coming up. Problem is, I don’t have 50-70 people I like enough to invite to my party!

I suppose I could suggest a large minimum donation for the few who do attend…

For those of us that are senior in age and own our home, what about considering a reverse mortgage?

This a way to utilize an untapped asset for personal enjoyment. When you pass the estate will satisfy the loan. Your heirs will end up with less, but I would hope they would rather have seen you happy in your retirement years.

Whatever you spend, it will be always less left for others.

But there is also one more thing:
The only money they you really have, is the money you spend.
If money is in the bank, it belongs to bank, and is affected by inflation, and you cannot take it in the grave with you.
So there must be a balance.

However, in the case of friendly fund raising party, no harm is done. And kids will not be affected later, or will not be affected later too much.

I have seen wedding parties where groom and bride, are asking for cash contributions, not presents... well there are different ways and cultures, I guess. And I am under impression this happens more often lately.
For my 50th b-day I called about 50-60 friends, made a garden party, with catering, no presents required, except usually guests bring some small token like bottle of good wine or whisky, in that type of party.

In my area I think learning handyman skills that you could work on the weekends would be the best way to earn Xtra cash. I tried to hire a guy to replace the glass in a first floor skylight 2 years ago. This skylight is about 12 feet up. The glass cost was about $600. He gave me a quote for $6,300. I'm thinking that he was planning on me paying him and a helper about $2,800/hour to replace that glass. I told him that I would burn the house down before I paid him that and my uncle and I replaced the glass but that is the going rate in my area. Carpenters and masons are charging the rates of 5 years ago, PLUS $4K -$6k PER DAY.

Graduation parties and Weddings where someone is getting started in life, it’s normal to give money, really it’s expected. Expecting or requesting money for an adult’s birthday party would be highly looked down on in the US.

I would advise against that. It's hard to redeem the property if the heirs want it.

Well, you could:
A) Rob a bank
B) Marry a wealthy gullible lady
C) Save up by cutting out all non essential expenses.
D) Establish a side source of income, the money from which will exclusively go towards funding your African Safaris.

I personally prefer option C & D.

The guy that juggles in front of Walmart seems to do ok, if only I could juggle! sigh.
So robbing the juggler guy once a week or so sounds like the most realistic thing I can think of. I could have a party for all my friends in a phone booth.
