Crocodile Broadheads and Pass Throughs

very intrigued enysee, oneday maybe Mozambique would be my choice for this kind of hunt .ley me know when your ready to go eric .

im a rage fan rooihond ,but id definitely stick a big assed fixed 2 blade b/h , inbetween the ribs of an ancient old crocalizard mate .

Some of my pals always keep Rages on hand. I have confidence with Slick Trick Standards. I don't know if they would be the most appropriate for a croc but they feel right when I send 'em.

The combo hippo/croc hunts in Moz are probably the best deal going right now. There are some minor obstacles/costs to get in and out of Moz though.

I'm sure that it would be worthwhile. Some spearfishing would also be in order for me on the saltwater side.

Hippo/ croc combos sound in order for all of us. Hippo on land and on the charge has to be a thrill! With a rifle of course. A stalk with bow would be out of this world.

As far as the expandables go, remember there are 2 types, the ones that open externally and those that open internally. The ones that open externally will certainly penetrate less than a fixed blade the same way they do on everything else but the ones that open internally may have an advantage by not having to slice through that scaly armor. I have no experience with this but it is just a thought.

That might have been what Steve used on his hunt.

I'm still curious about the toughness of the skin on a live croc. Is it like a tire, thin plywood, snake skin? Scutes and the sides.

I will be bombarding my outfitter with questions soon and will relay any new info.

Cant help you there. I have never even touched one.

Bonbarding always works for me. ;)

I have never been too close to a croc, but have seen then bite the heck out of each other. I would assume there skin is very tough. For me I would use a heavy arrow topped with a heavy two blade like a gk. I can't see using an expandable head on an animal like that but im no expert. Make sure to talk to your outfitter as I believe it is not legal to hunt crocs with archery gear in some areas. Sounds like a blast and hope you can make it happen.

That would be my "go to" penetration set up as well, unless I am missing something.

belly skin is used for handbags luxury goods etc, but only up to a certain length, think about 6 feet or maybe less as the scales get too big otherwise. other parts are also used for different leather applications. the back top skin is like very tough thick leather and to me kinda smells like wet leather if the skin is wet when trying to load it in a vehicle etc

hey spikey , how big do these crocs grow up at your place????

not too big for some reason................;) depends our main dam wall is only 60/70 yards from the river and in the rains the river rises 30+feet and goes over the wall, so they move in and also walk in when its lower, and we have 16kms of river front. as a private reserve we have tried to get some on licence but zawa dont respond......not sure but i heard its only govnt areas that have a cites quota and private places arent mentioned......

I have the ok on the croc with bow squared away. I'm enjoying the research and final planning stages now. I have a heavy arrow going and still plenty of penetration with a Slick Standard. It isn't the first choice in conventional wisdom for dangerous game but they hold confidence for me. The thought of a two blade still crosses my mind. I have been told that I would be ok with either. Thanks for the encouragement. It should be a blast alright!

Bombardment commencing soon! The owner was fielding a few questions for me. The manager is about to get home from Dallas so I will save most of my grilling for him.

Thanks! Tough thick leather. This gives me an idea of what I'm dealing with. I have never had the chance to see what unfinished croc skin is like.

hi Spike
on your comment on not too big.. well I think that depends on the hunter? I will show my photos if you show yours!! Ha ha!
