I picked up a Zastava M70 in 8X57JS. Not my favorite cartridge, so I'm interested in getting it rebarreled to 7X57. I'm looking for suggestions as to a barrel maker.

I'm also interested in a recommendation for a gunsmith that could do the rebarreling and finishing.

Thanks!

Might have a look at Shaw barrels. They do the whole job pretty reasonable.

A few years ago, I re-barreled a Win Mod 70 from 300 RUM to 404 Jeffery. I went with a Krieger barrel and sent it all to Dennis Olson in Montana. He did a great job and a few other AH members have used Dennis also. Great work at a reasonable price.

... given that Zastava M70's are a dime a dozen, why would you not just sell the 8x57 and buy a new M70 in 7x57?

Less than $500 USD for a new one.

Not that easy to find in 7x57.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
