I would like to take a couple of NICE bottles of California wine to the land owner in SA where I'll be hunting next week, but I'd hate to give them up to some customs official. I don't mind paying a "DUTY" or other reasonable fee. Anybody have any knowledge or experience with taking wine through customs in Johannesburg ? If I've posted this in the wrong place, please let me know. First time user just trying to learn something new. Thanks again

If you buy in a duty free shop in the airport and it is total of one lt or less you are ok.

Duty-free allowances
Goods falling within the following allowances may be brought in without the payment of customs duty and VAT as accompanied baggage:
  • No more than 200 cigarettes and 20 cigars per person
  • No more than 250g of cigarette or pipe tobacco per person
  • No more than 50ml perfume and 250ml eau de toilette per person
  • No more than 2 litres of wine per person
  • No more than 1 litre in total of other alcoholic beverages per person
In addition to personal effects and the above consumable allowances, travellers are allowed new or used goods in accompanied baggage to the value of R5 000.

A traveller is entitled to these allowances once per person during a period of 30 days after an absence of 48 hours from South Africa.

The tobacco and alcohol allowance is not applicable to persons under the age of 18 years.
Crew members are not entitled to any consumable allowances.

Spike thanks for the clarity on the wine!

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob

Good morning. I see that you had a Sauer 202 for sale for $3,000. Did you sell it at that price?
I have one for sale as well. I listed it (on here ) at $3,000 as well. Is the price high, low or right where it should be?

Thanks. Alex. [redacted] in case you want to call me to discuss further. I appreciate your time help and support.
