Hello Everyone,

I have a very early production Winchester M70 Classic Super Grade in 338 Win Mag for sale. I purchased this rifle a while back with the intention of using it as my light rifle, (along with a 416), as a two rifle battery. Not long after I got it, I was given the opportunity to purchase a 338 built by one of my favorite riflemakers, so I didn't end up using this one.

I was told this rifle came from a collectors estate. It comes in the original box, with all of the original paperwork, scope rings/bases and still has the hang-tag attached. It still has the scope base screw plugs in place as well as some cosmoline on the bolt and in the raceway, so I believe it to be unfired.

The metalwork all looks perfect. It does have a scrape on the wood on the left front side of the forearm (see photo). I am guessing it got tangled up with a vent rib shotgun in a safe at some point, but it was there when I bought it, so I can't say for sure.

This would make a fantastic hunting rifle with the original M70 trigger and a very nice piece of wood. It also has a 24" barrel, rather than the 26" barrels that became standard later.

$2,250 shipped to your FFL.

Thanks,

Chet

Wow! Nice rifle.

Nice rifle! I think a pair of model 70’s in 338 & 416 make an ideal 2-gun combo on any hunt that includes large dangerous game. That’s what I typically take, 338 Winchester & 416 Hoffman.

Now I just need to figure out how to integrate the 375 H&H I just had built into what already works really well.

I wish i had this rifle. Use? Clients taking crocs. The .338 accurate and terminal results devastating.

Thanks guys!

I'll give it a couple more days before I post it on Gunbroker.

With a 13,000 range SN it would be very early 1990's. I want to say the sights that Winchester included with it have a 1991 date on the box, but I'll check when I get home tonight.

Oops, typo, that was supposed to be 16,000 range SN.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
