I have bought the 270 grain and 300 grain failsafe, when Combined Technology stopped making them and put them on a huge sale a few years back. I would use them on anything but a elephant then I would step up to a solid...such as Barnes Branded Solid. If they shoot well in you gun, by all mean use them they are a top notch bullet!!! Winchestor got rid of that line for there XP3 line of ammo. The XP3 has a plastic tip. Whoopy! The failsafes are very good.

I have never used the 375 H&H Failsafes, but I used the 180 grainers in a 300 mag and they shot excellent. We used them on Nilgai antelope down in South Texas and both myself and hunting partner dropped two big bulls with them. The nilgai are extremely tough animals that can range from 500 to 800 lbs, with some being larger. They can handle a lot of lead and rarely go down on the spot. They were released on the King Ranch in South Texas and roam pretty much free range in the area.

I used the factory Winchester 225 grain .338 Win Mag failsafe loads in RSA on everything from Impala to Eland and they are accurate and deadly. They shot through everything! The only bullets recovered were under the offside skin of the eland and the gemsbok (after shooting through both shoulder joints and the backbone at 150 yards).

The eland bullet is on the left and the gemsbok on the right - note the oval crossection and laid back petals on the gemsbok bullet that plowed through massive bones.

Shoot something big with them, you will like them.

questions answered

Well, this search function is sure paying off. Rather than being the noob with all the questions I'm finding quite an education in the "archives" here...

I rec'd a free box of this ammo from the dealer who sold me my rifle. After I group it I'll likely save the box for some hunting...
