I am acquiring an unfired Ruger RSM in 416 Rigby, and I need a set of dies. I prefer Redding, but they are stupidly expensive for this cartridge. RCBS seems to be out of stock everywhere. Hornady and Lyman are readily available. I have several sets of Hornady dies in various calibers. They are OK, but I don’t love them. The Lyman dies are relatively cheap. I don’t own any modern Lyman dies. Are they any good?

What do you folks recommend? Thanks.

I recently sold 2 sets of Hornady dies to customers and they work fine. Mike then and they run true.

Also curious about Lyman dies...

I’ve got RCBS or Lee for everything I reload... but have been eyeballing Lyman’s for 270 and 30-06.. there is a guy on GB selling both at about the same price Lee’s go for... I’ve been thinking about snatching them up...

I have Hornady and Lyman dies for my .416 Rigby and both do fine. We're not talking about a 1,000 yard bench rest rifle.

Natchez is showing RCBS in stock. $59.99

When I tried to order, it told me they are back ordered, despite the product page saying in stock.

I went ahead and ordered the Lyman dies along with Hornady brass and 400 grain solids from Midsouth.

I will report back.

I have used practically all the varieties of reloading dies over the years and Lyman is as good as if not better than most. One thing to watch out for with the 416 Rigby is shoulder collapse during the sizing downstroke... just the nature of that case design. At least wipe down the fired cases with a cloth and acetone before starting and for certain use the proper amount of a good case lube and go slow. Also, for crimping, nothing beats the Lee FCD, but it may be a special order item for the Rigby?? And, because of the case design and geometry, setting the sizing die for correct headspace for the individual chamber can be somewhat exacting.

I have Lyman dies in 375 Ruger - been happy with them - seem very well made - think you'll be happy.

All of my dies are RCBS. They are semi local to me here in northern California. I've even worked for RCBS on their building. That's how I acquired my reloading setup. I snuck in a trade for some reloading stuff. I'll say that RCBS customer service is top shelf in every regard.

Huntingtons next store has an impressive mount collection. They have a full body mount bongo. And loads of other great mounts. I dream of Africa every time I'm there.

Sir, I will gladly take that 16 gauge off your hands. I was waiting for your Winchesters but I'm a sucker for a 16 ga.

I bought a great deal of the brass he had for sale, plus I already had many hundred rounds.

How much brass are you looking for?
