I had a patient who blew up a Browning A-bolt in 270 by firing a 308 down it, but wouldn’t think it would be possible to chamber a 270 in a 243. The gun did what it was supposed to do and directed the gas away from him. He was uninjured but the gun did not fare so well.

I only know my patient’s story because he kept the 308 casing on a necklace to remind him what a moment of inattention can cause. It looked like a 45-70 cartridge

IMO, the .340 Weatherby is the best coastal brown bear and polar bear cartridge ever devised...

Maybe, I just like Weatherby's...

They sure are pretty, and IMO something about the stock tames the recoil.

I'm still looking for ugly, but I just haven't been able to find it.

Dave it may be great but when you show up with a braked rifle with different bullet weights with one scope it is for sure the wrong choice.

I stand by opinion that all calibers are good but the more esoteric a caliber is, the more you need to be a dedicated fan. But anyway you slice it a shooter needs to know their limitations and the limitations of the cartridge.

That was my thinking as well. I don't think it would have hurt the rifle much, but the bullet probably went somewhere it wasn't intended. Not exactly competition accuracy. Kids, don't try this at home!
