I think then nosler partition is a little too tough. You might not get the expansion you want on thin skinned game. I would go with a more traditional soft point.

That is the point... I know of some Brown Bear / Kodiak guide who use 416 as back up, and they load Partitions, but a big brown is at least double the size of the biggest lion ever...

Norma has a 450gr Woodleigh soft point in there PH series of ammo.
I found these A-Square 400gr Lion Load in 416 Hoffman that I resized to 416 Taylor. Taken 2 black bears with these bullets, .416 entry hole, 2.416 exit hole.View attachment 464988

I would use the Northfork 400 percussion point. Specifically made for cats and maybe more importantly are actually in stock right now on reloading international.

the Stewart special out of South Africa has wider claws than the bear claw. You could try out some Hawke bullets, they are soft enough for expansion on cats...

Trophy bonded bear claw ...but others will work....there are some big muscles in male lions...and I think they are also bigger in size than most realise...

I use the 450 woodleigh for my .416 Rigby for cats, it works perfectly. I am a big fan of Norma when it comes to factory ammo. It never has let me down, particularily the solids for elis.

I only use Norma PH for dangerous game, they never fail and their 450gr woodleigh is doing well. I use it on cats for my .416 Rigby. It stops instantanious, opens up and the cat drops right away (with a decent shot).

Good news from a good source! So you did it, they open well even on thin skin... this is very enteresting, since Woods could be indeed very versatile bullets from everything

Which bullet (brand/model) would you use for Lion hunting in 416 Rem/Rigby?
It may seems an obvious question, but today we have plenty of super tough bullets intended for Buffalo, and very few "old style" soft bullets for dangerous thin skin game. So what would be you choice?

Probably A frame or Accubond. I took my lion with a 300g Accubond.
