The Whelen was loaded to similar velocities as the Whelen but with hand loads the Whelen runs rings around the Rigby. If the Rigby was loaded to modern pressures it would be outstanding.

Yes, the 350 Rigby did come first, just put it as I did to show it was not loaded to potential. Load the 350 Rigby to its potential and it is up there with the 358 Norma mag

358 Win is a plains game hammer in Africa I've run one custom M70 on impala, bushbuck, warthog, and zebra, all one shot DRTs from 10–300 yds. No lost game, zero drama.

Factory: Buffalo Bore 225gr TTSX 2,400 fps flatter, expands like hell down to 1,800 fps. Hornady 200gr Interlock for brush busters.

Handloads: 225gr Barnes TSX or Nosler AccuBond over 50gr IMR 4064 2,350 fps my go to, sub MOA, drops eland short of 250 yds. Skip 250s unless you're bone smashing kudu up close.

I have a savage 99 a like new in 358 win that i got not long ago .I think nosler partitions in it would be awesome .I sold my 35 whelen long ago just got this 358 win in package deal .I didnt want another caliber most of my stuff is .338 and 416 .I am thinking about having my .243 win ruger 77 rebored to 338 federal another awesome round you hardly see guns for exceot ar10s .A friend in Alaaka had a win model 88 rebarreled to 35-284 which is same power as 35 whelen .The 358 win is awesome for black bears and elk in timber .I think it would handle any plains game to 200 yards .I am rescoping my 358 win with 3x9 nikon good enough for 250 yards .Its a little light for griz for me but would do if thats all you had.

One of my 358s shoots 200gr TTSX at 2600fps into one hole at 100 yards. I have taken a cow Nilgai, cow elk, Wyoming mulie buck, several pigs and a couple whitetails. The elk needed an extra shot but the rest only needed one.

My other 358 shoots 225gr North Fork softs and cup point solids at 2525fps sub 1 inch at 100 yards. It took a sable, white blesbok, common blesbok, klipspringer, and red harteabeast all with one shot.

There is some magic to this round that is hard to explain until you use it on some hunts.

Same story for 9.3...difference like 308 and 30/06 so...a lot of best tracker all around of africa say which 9.3 has been touched by witchdoctor's hand !!!They are not great on the ballistic paper but on hunting field "only"

Whether using factory ammo (200 from Hornady or Winchester or 225/250 from BuffaloBore) or your own load, I'm curious what folks have done or would do with a 358 Winchester in Africa.


That which have done 9.3 for 120 years...
Difference BETWEEN them is like 30/06 and 308 so...then if u put 358 in a lever action ,u will have a rifle shorter ,lighter , with same accuracy same price about ammo and rifle same reliability but more easily/velocity about repeating a shot and to the end 3 rounds in +

If allowed, would you shoot a cat or anything dangerous with it? It seems capable but I'm also not the one who has to follow a wounded leopard into thick brush!

In different country no limits about caliber and energy rifle also for DG.In cameroun is .358 so...u ain't forced to hunt in those country which have those limits
