I am planning my return to Southern Africa for 2023 and need help on what to hunt. This will be my fourth and probably last trip to Africa. My plan is a 10 day Eastern Cape hunt and right now I only have two animals that I would like to hunt, Nyala to replace the wrong one the taxidermist sent me and cape bushbuck and maybe a Zebra. To save time I have taken the following animals on previous Safaris, Kudu (Cape and greater), Springbok (common, black, white and copper), Blesbok (common and white), Red Hartebeest, Wildebeest (Black and Blue), Impala, Warthog, Mtn. Reedbuck, Gemsbok, Eland, Red Lechwe, Waterbuck, baboon and Cape Buffalo. My outfitter has suggested along with the Nyala and Cape Bushbuck, Bushpig, Blue Duiker, Vaal rhebok, and jack lighting blackback jackal (which sounds fun).
Any and all ideas welcome, also anything that would be fun and interesting.....

Man, there is a whole lot of Africa besides the RSA with a lot of different regional species.

I like the idea of going shotgunning for game birds to give yourself a break from rifle shooting. Enjoy a nice walk...shoot some birds...have a little lunch. Take a slow walk back...shoot some birds...have them for dinner with a nice wine.

Repeat what Red Leg has written. There is a whole lot of Africa besides South Africa.

This is great advice. Get to a remote bush camp and hunt. Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique would be great places to start looking. Personally I focus on the hunt rather than the species.

If you are in good shape, look for a true tracking hunt for eland. Bokamosa or NKWE in Botswana, or Jamey Traut in the Otavi area of Namibia would be good places to start.

I have a pictorial opinion...

I almost didn't do this...I'm way glad I did...

Thanks, I have hunted Zambi and spent time in Zimbabwe, just my wife really enjoyed the Eastern Cape and would like to visit there with me one more time before she can't make the long trip again.

See my above comments, you guys shouldn't assume that I've only hunted south Africa

CLS-I have hunted caracal and bush pig and both were great fun!! The others you suggested would be great too!

Go after Vaalie. Looks like a hunt that takes you to some unique properties with great views. From what of seen.

I like your outfitter’s suggested list, particularly the bushpig and Vaal rhebok. How did you previously hunt your eland(s)? A mountain hunt for one in Karoo while you hunt Vaal rhebok would be a great addition. This picture was from my hunt in 2020, glassing herd of eland in distance.

Since you are going to be in the EC a Barbary sheep (aoudad) hunt on the coast could be a good time

How about Auodad on their native continent, I also thought of Caracal. How about a yellow blesbok and a black Impala. Golden wildebeast? Sadleback Impala. Copper Blesbok. Common duiker can be fun to hunt. Best of luck. I'm sure you'll enjoy your hunt.

Since your destination is determined, those 6 hunts take you across a wide range of EC cover and hunting methods. Should be fun.

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

My wife (a biologist, like me) had to have a melanoma removed from her arm last fall.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
