I've decided I want to do my next buffalo hunt in the Zambezi valley.
I've seen dry, dusty Africa. Next time I want to see how green Africa looks.
This means I'll need to hunt after the rains end but long enough afterward that there are not pools of water everywhere that would mean the buffalo are scattered across the continent.
For those who have been to the valley what month would you suggest? April? May?
Thanks.

I don't know about early. I hunted with Chifuti in early September 2011 and the buffalo were scattered and tough to find. We weren't seeing a lot of tracks at the water holes - could have moved to another concession who knows - I did get one. I would talk with the outfit you plan to hunt with and discuss with them. I suspect April would be awfully hot too - maybe even a chance of rain still then.

I have hunted the valley in April, May, September, October, and November.

April was wet and hot. This is what it looks like.

I made a note it felt like a Cameroon rain forest.

Early May can be hot and wet. By mid May it can cool down at night and will not be humid.

Late April and May can be a great time to hunt. March and April can be very wet.

Plainsgame is tough because you cannot see through the brush. Depending on the area buffalo can be difficult also but you can hunt them in very close quarters.

November can be fun also. I have been there a couple of times to see everything go from dead to green. It can also be difficult. Game can be very scattered.
