What have you killed with the 8x57?

Another 8x57 added to the fold. The recent CZ 600. 20 inch barrel doing 2530 fps with the Norma 196gr load. Ready for use in the field.

The rear is the set trigger - lightens up the pull on the main (front) trigger.
That’s the double set trigger setup.
You are correct that some rifles have a single set trigger where the trigger is pushed forward to set and then used as normal.

Exactly. I have two rifles with set triggers; one is a double-set and the other (a drilling) is a singe-set. The usual trigger pull is quite heavy (something on the order of 10 lbs.) but once you set the trigger, it's a "hair trigger" that only requires ounces.

Sorry can i shoot this ammo in my 318 double Cheers Dr Juan Pablo Pozzi

As far as can be seen in the photo, they could be 8x57IR cartridges, normally loaded with 318 caliber bullets. Therefore you could use them in a rifle caliber 8x57IR, but you have to decide for yourself about the condition of this old ammunition and whether it is still usable.

For those who thought the S&B 196gr is a soft bullet, think again. Put my brother in law on a fork bull moose (around 800 lbs) this weekend, 225 yard shot broad side. Two pass throughs, one on lungs, one in the heart and out the off side shoulder and one recovered in the rib cage on the off side. Recovered bullet weighs 171gr which makes 87% weight retention.

I inherited dads surplus m98 ( a 1933 Oberndorf Banner model), and over a number of years brought it more current (Timney Trigger,, drop magazine, side swing 3 position safety, etc). It is my go to....Countless Whitetail deer, two Canadian Eastern Moose. I long to take it on a bear hunt, but probably my guided hunts are behind me now. I was always amazed the cartridge wasnt more popular than it became. Essentially 30-06 performance in a short case.

A late season color phase black bear. Husqvarna 8x57 with irons. Bullet was recovered. 180gr Nosler E-tip all copper at 2550 fps. Recovered bullet weighed 179gr. So the plastic tip is what was loss.

Weighed the bear with vitals and guts removed. Any guesses for weight?

Not a far shot, under 25 yards-Bear looking at me with the chest exposed. Tucked the bullet under it's chin and into the chest. Bullet traveled through lungs, liver, gut and ended up in the rear spine above the tenderloin.

I very much enjoy using irons, I find them fun and more rewarding when I do harvest something.

I prefer irons for hunting and on my schuetzen rifles. All are double set trigger.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
