What are you reading?

Very similar to reading Russell Annabel books. Enjoying it immensely

I'm reading Pondoro - Last of the Ivory Hunters by John Taylor, first published in 1955.
I think this was his last book. Different than African Rifles and Cartridges, the focus on various game of Africa, and the Africans he hunted and lived with.
When you finish that one “a man called lion” is well worth the read as well

I just finished the chapter on moose and there is no mention or rifle make, caliber or bullet selection. I can’t remember in any of the earlier chapters that he talks much about any specific rifle-I forget stuff pretty easy but he doesn’t write about those details nearly as much as similar authors do either

I’m in the latter chapters of “ The River of Doubt” it’s about Theodore Roosevelt’s journey in the Amazon basin in 1914.
Not sure of the author or the exact title but it’s a pretty interesting read.

I’m skipping around on books
Carpet Shahib , bio on Jim Corbett
And Great Gatsby ( it’s the 100 year anniversary since the first release)

I usually keep two or three going simultaneously. Just finished Jeffrey Cox's "Morning Star, Midnight Sun" which is about the first three to four months of the air, sea, and land campaign on and around Guadalcanal in 1942. I am about halfway through his follow-on work, "Blazing Star, Setting Sun," which covers the remainder of the campaign and eventual American victory - one in many ways more decisive than Midway. Both are excellent. The upstairs book at the moment is "The Works of Flavius Josephus." This particular volume was published in the late 17th century, so the English is a bit of a slog. It is, however, fascinating. His work is the only contemporary historical account of the Jews and the Second Jewish Revolt, and by extension, Jesus (who he mentions in passing) during the first century CE.

Started the T E Lawrence book by Lowell Thomas last evening. Found it in the Toronto public library section of Internet Archive.

I really enjoyed the Seven Pillars of Wisdom

7 Pillars of Wisdom is restricted on Internet Archive, it is what I was searching for when I found the Lowell Thomas book.

I was given a copy when I was in my teens, and it is what began my fascination with the Middle East. That eventually led to the Defense Language Institute for Arabic, Foreign Service Institute for Arabian Peninsula Dialect, and a fellowship at the Walsh School, Contemporary Arab Studies, Georgetown - and a lot of time mucking around the Arab World.

I can't imagine why it would be on some sort of restricted list.

The restriction mentioned is most likely a paywall

in Canada:
  • While "7 Pillars of Wisdom" is not directly related to banned books, there has been an increase in instances of book bans and removals in Canadian schools and libraries.
  • Reasons for these bans often include concerns about content related to race, racism, LGBTQ+ themes, or other sensitive topics
I find this ludicrous that Canada did this ! History and historical vernacular should not dictate censoring, but I am becoming increasingly convinced that I’m becoming obsolete ?

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
