That is going to be a hard search. From searching on Google the last batch was made by Horneber. Their website doesn't mention it anymore you can contact them if they will make you a batch.

Contact www.doublegunshop and go to the German/Austrian section of the blogs. Establish a thread there or ask questions. If you can, PM either Ellenbr or DerAmi and they should know where to send you. You may have to sigh up. If I find anything, I will post a response, as well. It would be easier (?) to find in Europe, but we aren't there....

If I were you and I found any, I would probably massively stock up! Collath was the world's worst at providing their own ammunition/sizes before standardization.

Collath guns are known to last and last. I might wish I could find one in my rather limited price range. Good luck and enjoy!

Well, maybe this is AI or a scammer. I got the folowing PM from Clovingsniper who just joined today,

"Hey, just a heads-up —TRENTON VALE has that item you’re after. I got a few things from him recently, all exactly as described. Solid, reliable guy. You can reach him at trentonvale@outlook.com"

"Might be worth checking before it’s gone."

I reported this PM.

I had a Collath double rifle drilling in 10.75x65r X 10.75x65r X 32 ga. It was a very well built gun with great engraving and wood carving. All the Collath that I have see were well built but too many were not well maintained.

Collath did have its own cartridges like specialized 16 ga shells. However, in the late 1880s to when Germany standardized cartridges, there were many different cartridges, some jus slight variations or other cartridges. I understand gun manufacturers did that so buyers would go back to buy ammo from the manufacturer, keeping the revenue stream confinuing for each gun sold.

Looks like Quality Cartridge wants enough back orders to justify another run of brass. You can also do the backorder at Graffs. Couldn't hurt since you don't pay in advance.

I have found a suggestion that said brass can be fire formed from 9.3x72 brass. Your call.
The German Gun Collectors site had a long post on reforming Win. 405 brass with a lathe, or 9.3x74, or 9.3x72. The first two are pretty complex. The last suggestion as a point of last resort was to have the chambers re-lined to 9.3x72R and that at least would be a permanent solution.

Steve, Thanks. That is what I am doing, shortening 9.3x72 to 60mm and running them into a 8x58.5R S&S sizing die. I will then anneal and fire form the brass.
The problem with 9.3x72 brass is that the head diameter is about 0.422" and my chamber case shows a head diameter of 0.440". Hopefully the brass will be centered and not create an lopside case.

Well, you are set for brass with the 9.3x72R--no need to fool with the 405 Win. as it will be way too big. All a case needs to do is fit IN YOUR BARREL. If it does, you're done. If not, there is always the lathe, with centering fixtures of course. Don't be surprised if the shots while fire forming are the most accurate rounds you ever load, for some reason. In other words, don't waste a shot just fire forming. Your round can do anything the 35 Rem. can do, which is a lot. Good luck and good shooting!

BTW, in all reloading (for low extreme spread due to consistent bullet release) but especially for loading hard to find brass, an annealing machine is a great investment. Probably will pay for itself in reduced split neck losses.

PS--Target Sports, online, has 9.3x72R for $42.08 per box of 20. You could do worse.

Serbus!

Dumb question, but is 7x65R the parent for the 9.3x65R collath? If so, you might be able to size up and anneal in many steps to convert brass. I'd do some googling to see if there is a way to form brass from another caliber.

Collath was a brilliant guy. In addition to all his cartridges, he is famous for two things we see often: 1.) The collath forend release that is the big lever often seen on Germanic guns, 2.) He invented the gas-check bullet.

All the Collaths I have seen were mid-grade to best guns. Not a junker in the bunch.

AND, due to his unique lock up system, there probably wasn't an off face gun in the bunch!

It will be brilliant for 85lc if the 7x65R is the answer--it is much, much more available, and cheaper than the 9.3x72!

If not, he can always take a loss and sell it to me....because that's the kind of helpful guy I am....

Unfortunately, the 7x65R isn't an offspring of teh 9x3X65r Collath. It is basically a rimmed 30/06 necked to 7mm. (I just reloaded some 7x65R for a DR).

I shortened 10 cases of 9.3x72, necked the down to fit my barrels and thinned the rim (lathe work) and charged them with bullseye and a case full of cream of wheat with a wax plug to fireform this brass. My bore is 0.355" so I will resize some 200 gr HC GC bullets to 0.356".

I bought this double rifle because every surface is beautifully engraved. I guess I knew that ammo could be difficult.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
