My hound can’t believe yours won’t go in .

Mine has a full body brown bear, full body wolf and full body lion immediately when you walk in. I think that might change a dog's attitude. Glad yours is content, wouldn't want him to chew up a mount. Looking great!

I see the "Original Mauser" poster there as well. Is it an original? or reprint? I've been trying to find one as well. A shame that the Mauser website does not offer it for purchase.

A trip to the taxidermist yesterday and I've welcomed some more critters to their new forever home.

A local quail snatching fox.

And some momentos from a great trip with @KMG Hunting Safaris a couple of years back.

My taxidermist liked the capes from Splitting Image, saying they were the best prepared capes he'd had from Africa.

Looks extremely comfortable! You can almost smell the leather, hardwood and the fire. A wonderful memories room.

Well done, sir! My kind of project. Every building I have done has been repurposed materials. Is your floor single layer? Did you use the sanding residue with binder to fill the cracks? Is the outside still all tin? Was there any need for further waterproofing?
My paternal grandparents added a room to their house as more children were born by rolling up an old feed shed and building it on with improvements of course. Those were the olden days. Back then everyone tore down old houses and reclaimed what they could. They even had us kids straightening the old nails and reusing them. Not to mention cleaning off old brick. Time was less expensive then.
Nowadays it is rare to repurpose except maybe to re-mill heavy lumber from old warehouses.

Thanks Mark - yes I was wrapt with how the fox turned out. He’s not biggest I’ve shot, but decent colours and a great coat. And was taken with a ‘taxidermy friendly’ cartridge.

The quail was a bit of a fortuitous enhancement - maybe not so fortuitous for the quail. It was a target of opportunity during a partridge shoot and I hit him too close and too well for an edible outcome - but immediately thought ‘I know just the place for you’.

Nice Steve - I hear you, I think it makes the process bit of an adventure.

Is your floor single layer?

Yes - being an old shearing shed, most of the flooring is almost 2” thick hardwood slats that were originally laid with about 3/4” spacing for the sheep excrement to fall through. All these were pulled up and re-laid.

Did you use the sanding residue with binder to fill the cracks?

Yes did a bit of that and cut some wedges and slithers for the worst of the gaps. It still very ‘rustic’.

Yes - all outside cladding is the original tin. There was a bit of work filling old nail holes, replacing some damaged sheets, replacing old nails with roofing screws etc - that all seemed effective and I think I can pronounce it watertight.

I hear you, our modern opulence has certainly led to a wasteful approach to much that we do. As I’ve travelled to developing regions in around the world, I’m always impressed with the ingenuity shown in making do and keeping old things going.
