Travelling with a suppressor

Question 10 on ATF FORM caused my form 5320 .2 to be rejected by subcontractor doing review for ATF.
The customs officer in each of two offices in Montana told me they will not allow suppressor on 4457.
I am going to try again for my upcoming September SA TRIP.
What was your answer to # 10?

I've traveled with suppressors to various countries in Southern Africa seven or more times and have always listed them on my 4457. Have never been hassled about listing them on the 4457 by CBP nor have I been asked a single question about them returning to the USA (generally thru ATL). I do carry a copy of the tax stamp with me in the gun case under the foam just in case it's requested, but it never has been.

the form does not say anything about a suppressor only firearms ie machine gun etc. you are doing what I did and trying to over think it, just put it on your 4457 and place it in your gun case and do not worry about it just have your stamp, and proof you purchased it (sales receipt) and no problem that is what I did this past April
That's what I did 2 years ago for my first trip to Africa. No issues at all.

I'm hopeful that with the Trump admin performing some spring cleaning on federal agencies, this gray silly space on suppressors gets cleared up.

Does anyone reading this have “the juice” to contact the administration and address this grey area? Simply have a clear policy that we can legally take our legal suppressors on legal trips to Africa and legally bring them back. This is ridiculous that only “some” ATF 5320.2 are signed by ATF and others are disapproved. That only “some” 4357 forms are approved for suppressors by CBP and others are not. WTF?
