To bolt or not to bolt?

Choices choices, it makes sense to have a bolt gun in 404 as an option. I too love doubles but when traveling light and needing versatility it’s hard to beat a bolt gun with optic.

Kevin, I looked at the Heym Express by Martini in 375H&H when prices were around R120k, but chose to go the CZ550 route with a local version of the AHR upgrades. I really regret that choice.

Such a beaut in a classic caliber is a no brainer!

Whilst in S&O on Friday I laid eyes and hands upon a few beautiful pieces. Here is a Heym Martini in 404j, a Rigby Big Bore in 416 Rigby and a Heym double in 450/400.
The Heym 404j handles beautifully and is well balanced. The wood is very good too.
I found the Rigby bulky and front-heavy.
The Heym double is identical to what I have and it handled the best of the lot, shorter of course, with the balance between the hands.
The 404j is half the price of each of the others. I am not a bolt guy, but this one is tempting.View attachment 704266
IMHO all bolt action stocks should be made exactly like the Martini Express.

Tough choice.
The allure of the double rifle or the sensible bolt action.

Another 404j vote. Can you honestly think of a good enough reason not to? :A Shades:

I lucked into a used Heym Martini Express in .404 Jeffery last year. It was the most money I have ever spent on a firearm - and I do not regret spending a single penny on it.
It handles, shoots, and feeds like it was built for me.

Variety is the "spice of life."

What did you decide on Kev?

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
