Thinking of selling my .404

Les, I did not say that I got the build price from the original owner and I have never once mention that I spoke to you, know you or have met you, and thank god for that.

I will admit that I miss worded my statement when I said “so I have found out what it cost the original owner” I meant “so I have found out what it would have cost the original owner” followed by the feed back from the gun makers I spoke to, so my mistake for missing a word out.

I don’t know what your problem or gain is by high jacking this tread and slandering me, I put it out there for over a month for feedback on the rifle and what everyone thought it would be worth so why pipe up now. If you feel you sold the rifle to cheap then that’s your mistake I was only advertising it for what I was told to by experts. But I will not be doing that now as I don’t like being inappropriately slandered for no reason at all.

@Stalker91 I would not pay any attention to what Les says. Obviously the rifle is worth what people will pay for it. If it takes 12-15K to get it build from scratch and someone is willing to pay your asking price of 8K or so then it is a fine deal for the buyer as they are saving money.

This is the Internet, if you are going to change your behavior based on what anonymous folks say then you will be doing that a lot.

What something was sold for years ago may or may not have a bearing on what it sells for today. Is my Chaupis DR still worth $7K because that is what I paid for it ~15 years ago or, is it worth the $5K~6K they generally sell for today?

Like some of my custom knives that I bought for ~$300, when the bladesmith/knifemaker dies those same knives double or triple because no more will ever be made by that bladesmith.

The OP has nine photos posted for this rifle. You must be having a hard time reading a thread. This is no $2000 or $3000 rifle

Today on www.egun.de there are several similar rifles built by German and Austrian guild gunsmiths, some on magnum mauser actions. Most are 375, I think a couple are 416's or maybe even one 404.

Not saying these rifles are the same, but it might give an idea as to what to price yours at.

Smithhausen https://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=13612582 built on some kind of 98.

DWM 98er https://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=13972696 404 but not as good of a condition.

Josef Just (really nice, but very Austrian) https://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=6543934

When I live in Maine about 16 years ago our local Cabelas had a 375 made by a British house name (not Purdey, Boss, WR, Rigby or Holland, but one of the smaller ones like Dickson). Anyway I think it was $17,000 then it was $12,000 and I think it went for $8500. It was lavishly engraved, and had amazing wood.

If you can get a price you are happy with then I think you should take it.

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc
