The Poor Man's Take Down Big Game Rifle

Looks like VZ 24 or Czech K98. The military stock has been sporterized and the receiver drilled and tapped to mount scope ring bases.
If you remove the front base you will find a rampant lion crest. This would make it a K98 rather than a VZ24. Most likely a postwar refurbished rifle that was ready for service before VZ 24 production.
What caliber is it?
Thanks for the information. It’s a .308 caliber and being an older gun it appears to have been fired a lot over the years as the riflings are pretty worn. Still shoots pretty true but definitely worn. I would like to redo this rifle, just not sure if I can even get replacement built parts or not. I will look tonight and see what markings is on it for sure.

I’m not sure how a loaded cartridge would be different from a primed case in this situation. The cartridge rests against the the bolt face without the firing pin protruding so the weight of the cartridge should not matter. Similarly, I’m not sure how high you should drop the gun on its muzzle to have enough deceleration to result in a requisite primer strike. I could be wrong though.
I think the prime danger lies in an AD upon lovering a bolt on a loaded chamber or more likely forgetting to decock the firing pin. But it sounds the OP is diligently checking it…
I'm not sure about all bolt action designs, but I think most common bolt actions actually will have the firing pin protrude beyond the bolt face and thus possibly ignite the primer. How much force that would take? I don't know, but freaky things happen so why take chances with such potentially great/grave consequences.

Then with the lion crest it is most likely an Izrael contract 7.62 Czech K98. I could not tell by the picture if it was phosphate coated or not but the thought has entered my mind. Maybe the other receiver markings should have told me but I'm no longer so up and up on all the proof marks and receiver stamps, plus I used to be interested in only some anyway and there are so many. Oddly enough, I used to have one. Totally butchered it and then sold it. Now I wish I had preserved it.

Well, I would never carry a gun this way and I would never walk the bush with someone having those habbits!
Another thing is, I had the ZKK 602 in 375 H&H for some time and was quiet happy with it! Handling, precision and balance all good for a magnum action rifle from the rack discount priced!
I didn‘t like the trigger much although my gunsmith tried his best … it stayed scrap and didn‘ t satisfy me! The safety never needed a second thought or took any attention …. it just worked as needed and wanted!
I‘m surprised how many hunters love to disassemble their guns! CZ factory standard accurazy of their guns is one of the top selling arguments (while finish is not ), so I don‘t believe there is any costy glasbedding neccessary!
My 375 was a plug and play from the beginning and would have been the trigger a bit more crisp I wouldn‘t have changed nothing on that gun! Chance to grab a ZKK?
Get it, hold it, love it, keep it!!

Had someone here who insisted on carrying his rifle in that manner....made me ever so slightly nervous....I brought it up and he said he always carried it like that as his father had....
I know why....the PH walks infront of the gun carrier! I heard of more than a few cases, where the PH was shot from the client! I wouldn't accept it!

On the topic of three-position-safeties for ZKKs:
Ragnar Hansen in Norway sells them too.

Either "regular":
https://www.hansen-rifles.no/product/m70-type-trepunktsikring-for-brno/

Or "secura type":
https://www.hansen-rifles.no/product/secura-m70-type-trepunktsikring-for-brno/

I had my gunsmith install one of the "regular" 3-pos-safeties on my .308 ZKK 601 and it works well.
Many thanks! I will contact Ragnar Hansen. Hopefully he will ship the safety to Austria.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
