I understand that there are 4 subspecies of Suni, but I have yet to find a distribution map or explanation of their extent.

One of my most memorable hunts was Suni in Niassa. What are the differences between these guys? Are they all huntable?

If we believe Kingdon´s field guide to african mammals, there are 2 subspecies

Neotragus Moschatus, in Zanzibar

Neotragus Livingstonianus in the mainland

Distribution: a fragmented range from Somalia to Zululand, east of the Great Rift Valley

I’ve got a book that shows all subspecies of african game animals at home , I’ll check it out tonight and see what it says

The Google chi is strong today

That’s the book I have, go get-em. A lifetime of hunting awaits the dedicated hunter of all of the tiny ten.

I found Kingdon's available, that one seems a little tougher to get my hands on.

So what kind of differences are there in the subspecies? Are they pretty obvious?

Very subtle difference in color size and horn size with the Livingston suni being the brightest and the longer horn. With the zululand being the dullest of all. According to African Game species and subspecies

I do know that I made a HUGE mistake not shooting a Livingston suni when I spent some time in Mozambique. I saw some pretty big ones that actually looked unreal because the horn length didn’t go with that tiny body,

I guess we both need to get back to moz then! I wouldn’t mind taking another older Suni if I can find one, but I really regret not spending time on those eland and not getting my Niassa wildebeest. But I think my next couple trips will probably be focusing on some more of those tiny 10+.

I was down in the delta, we would see suni, red duiker, blue duiker and oribi at least every other day. I kick my self quite often for not taking advantage of those opportunities.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
