One of my Canadian outfitters has some openings for his Spring Black Bear hunts left. He has beautiful lodge just out of Prince George, his exclusive guide area is 2,500 square miles with an excellent Black Bear population including a good number of color phase Bears. Beautiful scenery and home cooked meals make this one of my favorite places to visit, the owner and his wife are great friends and they have done a great job taking care of the clients we have sent hem over the years.

Cost on these hunts is a bit higher due to the fact they are fully guided true spot and stalk hunts, not baited hunts.

Season runs from May 1- June 15, bow hunters are welcome and usually get in several stalks a day.

These 7 day 2x1 hunts are $4,000 plus license, tag, tax and royalty a second Bear may be taken for $2,000 ($1,000 for the hunt and $1,000 for the trophy fee).

James,

What is the average size of these bears?

What is the success rate of this hunt?

All the best.

HI Wheels,

Average bears square over 7 foot and a few 8 footers are taken every year. Success rate is 90%. Are you around tomorrow, i need to catch up with you on the Kansas hunt.

WOW!! are you certain of those numbers on 'average size' for black bears in Prince George being 7+ feet, and some 8 footers yearly
?? That seems more like grizzly sizes to me...I would sure love to see some black bears that size, that is for sure!

Sorry if i did not make myself clear, those are the size for squared skins after they have been removed.

Thanks for the info. Those are big bears.

I'm pretty open between 10:30-3:30. Just give me a call.

I was about to point out that detail "squared".
Still, won't be bad bears.

yeah, im not getting it .
can you please explain , seven feet squared ....

The square measurement takes into account the length and width of a bear. Nose to tail and paw to paw divided by 2.

So if a skin is 8 foot, nose to tail and 6 foot, paw to paw it it 8+6/2=7" squared. The measurement takes into account girth as well as height alone.

thanks james ,I had pictures of 3 1/2 long by 2 wide .
l was wondering if you guys shoot yogis or boo boos
im really glad l asked .

7 square feet. That would be boo boo.

Come on now. We have some monster bears up here no matter where you put the tape.

The cold weather and deep snow this year won't be bugging them at all. They be sleeping.
I would not book the earliest hunt for sure.

l look foreward to going back up there ,
wont be for maybe 3 years . and black bear will be no.1 on the list x2, my daughter wants to bowhunt one aswell .
will do if for her 19th birthday , l rekon .

Squared measurements are only as good as the guy taking them. if the bear is stretched out both ways then measured it will be way smaller than if it is stretched lengthways and measured then stretched widthways and measured, both of which will be way bigger than actual on the carcass measurements. And to further complicate it, some measure from nose to tip of the tail while others measure from nose to tip of the hind claw.

Taxidermists hate squared measurements. They are the source of a lot of "why is my 6' bear only 4' now, you screwed up my bear" and "that's not my bear hide, mine is 6' ". Once tanned all that extra stretch (beyond the actual on the carcass size dissapears)

Regardless of how you do it, a 7' bear is a nice bear.
