Snakes again

Yep, they’re starting to crawl! Saw the first cottonmouth earlier this week and a 9’ gator has been out sunning in an old stock pond, he and the common snapping turtles are pretty good snake control but can’t hold a candle to the wife’s chihuahua that takes on all comers. She’s as bad as cat leaving dead critters on the porch!

This dude almost got me on a pheasant hunt in SD last year. My first encounter with a Prairie Rattler but I was told it was XL.

I stepped over this guy last fall while I was clearing some downed limbs near my deer stand. He was quite happy is his sunny spot and never made a move.

Yikes. Timber rattlers are spooky. I have worn my S Texas snake boots in the Limpopo early season after a couple of encounters. I wear them here why not there. Sometimes at my age I feel statistically I am past my time after numerous close calls.

Fortunately, it was a cool morning. I looked down and it was 6 inches away from my foot.

I shot it eight times

As a big around as my bicep

Timber rattler

Grow em big down here in Southwest Mississippi
Did you kill em? LOL.
SO MY HEARING IS SO BAD my wife says I need to start wearing snake chaps. I said " what did you say"!, But shes right so Im going to post on classifieds for some. should you know of some, they dont stockem outhere.

Snakes are protected here unless they pose a threat.
Rural land occupants tend to like keep a .410 shotgun handy for those times they pose a threat.

I've posted this before on the forum here but it is still interesting

Found this den site in Arizona while hunting javelina way back in 2005. To this day no one who we have taken into the site has killed one of them. I hiked into it this year while down there and there were quite a few out but not this many.
