Has anyone on here put a low power scope on a Sako Safari,in detachable mounts? I'll use the open sights but my eyesight not the best so might use a scope one day. Thanks Mark. ps I'll post a few pics when the rifle turns up.

a few pics...this might of been the last one made, came straight to NZ from Finland.

SAKO used to make a quick release mount, special order item. I don’t know if they are still made, considering they are now making 90’s and 100’s.

Sako makes goofy configured quick release scope mounts. My profile pic on the left is my Sako .375H&H with new 30mm scope QR mounts holding a Vortex scope. I had to order them from Brownell's because nobody had them on the shelves in town. The design I guess, is unique only to Sako, I may be wrong though.

Not on the Safari per se, but I've got these on some Sako 85s with low power scopes.

Looking foward to seeing pics of the .450.

Yep thought of those but I'm not sure if the bases left on the action would roll the express sights. The Sako detachable mounts and rings are one piece and when off don't leave anything on the rifle. Soon as it gets here I'll take some pics. Cheers Mark

You have a very beautiful rifle!

I have similar Sako but in .416 Rigby. It has Enrst Apel detachable mounts installed (https://www.eaw.de/en/). They are good and keep zero well. Scope is Swarovski Z8i 1-8 which I can warmly recommend. Only thing I don't like is that the scope sits quite high (as scopes often do).

Opps I meant foul the express sights

Instead of low power scope why not reflex dot sight?
That should also remove the chances of any scope giving you a bad kiss on recoil.

Mark,

The Sako solution sounds good - I did consider them from what I read online - but at the time they were unobtainium.

I’ll check mine tomorrow - certainly no physical interference with irons. From memory the bases, with rings/scope detached, do not interfere with iron sight picture.

yep,was thinking of that too, most likely ill just stay on the express sights and get used to the rifle. I once had a Sako 75 Safari and for some reason it used to buzz my teeth..

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
