Scope Setting for Cape Buffalo?

Red leg mentioned scope off for wounded buffalo.

Do we have other forum members with similar advice and experience?
Maybe experienced PH will jump in?

The thing is: I am addicted to scope, so what would be advice for a client (like me) on a track of wounded buffalo?
All my hunting rifles have iron sights, all of them are tested and zeroed with iron sights at 50 meters, later, on all of them, the scope was added and zeroed as well. But I am addicted to scope.

What about low magnification of 1x or 1.7x, on track for wounded buff? Change scope to red dot? Train additionally with iron sights?

You are probably better off with the scope set to 1x if you need to follow up.....just dont forget to crank it down but your PH should remind you before follow up anyway.....

Use an LPVO... ALWAYS carry your rifle with the scope set to the LOWEST power setting... when you need it fast, it is far more likely to be an extremely close shot than a far shot... and the close ones can be urgent. If the shot does require more magnification, you usually have plenty of time to set it. Any quality 1-4X, 1.5-5X, 1-6X or 1-8X will be golden.

I use a 1x6 Leupold and leave it on 1x until I'm on the sticks and If there is enough distance and time crank it up to 6x although 1x is really enough for any realistic range on buffalo.

Hi PaulB. Would you be interested in another WJ Jeffery .450/.400 NE 3". It's an extractor model and in superb condition, cased as well. Made in 1908. The rifle is here in Texas.
