Safe to Hunt Sa 2024 after Election

Welcome to AH :S Welcome:

I just got back from safari in South Africa in early June. It’s an incredibly safe place. Johannesburg is like any big city, which means, get out of it as fast as you can! By the way I live fairly close to St. Louis, and feel exactly the same way about that town! I’m not sure why the upcoming election has you concerned. I don’t think there’s anything necessarily concerning about this particular election. Maybe I’m missing something. If so please explain.

I was hunting there during elections in 2019. Everything was safe and you wouldn’t know it from any other time except the signs on all over the road. I might have taken a few down after the election and had shipped home as souvenirs.

The run up to an election if anything is the time for heightened emotions, that is when you want to stay clear of crowds etc. I don’t know of any reason why this election is likely to be problematic.

Kevin, was just curious being you are there, you should know. But the Media as in everything else you hear and read you can’t trust. Several articles speaking of lots threats and not to travel

2019 was a hard time their, that was the demise of apartheid during that election. It shouldn’t be anything close to that, I wouldn’t think.

I think you are about 25 years off on that election.

I would not want to be there at election time, & right before and right after. I was in Livingstone 7 years ago and it was election time. I did not get much sleep as trucks were running up and down the street blaring messages.

Apartheid came to an end with the release of Nelson Mandela from prison in 1990, and subsequent talks during the early 1990’s that ultimately led to the election in 1994, that was won by the ANC. Since then the ANC had been the ruling party, with a black incumbent president, and a mostly black cabinet, so not sure where the 2019 demise of apartheid comes from.

Nonetheless, back to your first question, we are in a place where the ANC will likely remain in power for another few elections, by majority vote. I mention this because South Africa had not reached the tyrannical state of one-party rule, where a political party needs to cling on to power with violence and intimidation. Since ‘94 we have not had major incidents during any of the elections. If you are here hunting over the election time, the day will be a public holiday, and the outfitter/ ph/ staff might go into town to vote for the morning, meaning a few hours lost hunting time as the worst case scenario. Likely some of them will opt not to vote, meaning it will have no influence on your trip at all.

Unless you are planning to spend a lot of time in town I doubt you will know any different. You can not allow this type of fear to stop the safari planning Process. Look at all the things that have happened in Zimbabwe over the years and people still hunt.

Will it be safe to hunt SA after the election in 24’
I was there in 2021 when they arrested their president for fraud and emesselment. The demonstrations were only in the cities and did not bother my hunt at all at TSALA. No worries.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
