Rigby rifles.

I have a Rigby Big Game PH in 404 Jeffery that I purchased from Cabelas in Buda on 9/10/2026 just like the one your thinks about. It’s a fantastic firearm Im very happy with the fit the Finnish on the other hand leaves something to be desired. I began carrying it on my afternoon walks around the ranch. Now being in South Texas in September it’s hot an every where I would get sweat on the rifle the Finnish started to come off. I’ve never had this happen before. An I will not send the rifle back. Im going to refinish it with my own oil mix when all the all the factory finnish come off. I hope this helps..View attachment 798603View attachment 798604View attachment 798605View attachment 798606View attachment 798603View attachment 798604View attachment 798605View attachment 798606
This is why when I hunt Africa, at the end of every day I just wipe down my complete rifle given my persperation always can cause blueing or stain to come off.

I've had no issue with my Heyms and their finish at all but I never use DEET ever and have had issues with it on fishing gear and guns in AK and it just doesn't work on Teatse Flys. Deet raised havoc on one of my sheep rifles years ago, a Brown Precision Kevlar stock that I bedded and finished. It damaged the Illinois Bronz paint we used years ago and even etched the Acraglass bedding material.

I think have 2 gallons and nothing to put it on but it does look good
Lol i use itn1x a year or after an outing
So if the berettas or any particular rifle doesnt get used that year it gets dissasembled cleaned and oiled. If used it gets cleaned and oiled

How is it acceptable to pay that much for a rifle and have the finish be "junk"? I would send it back them and make them fix it. If you do it yourself the rifle takes a big hit on used market worth. When you pay 20k for a rifle and that shit happens, that shouldn't be ok. I avoid deet like the plague, that stuff is terrible to put on your skin or anything for that matter. I have used permethrin extensively on clothing as well as Skin so Soft sunscreen/bug repellant on multiple safaris and nothing like this has happened to any of my rifles, and I sweat heavily.

tho its nice to original everything but British rifles seem to get a pass on originality

I am sorry you are having an issue with the finish on your rifle. Please reach out to me in a direct message and I can connect you with Salde in London to assist you in getting it sorted.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
Gents, if you book and pay your deposit before the end of this year , you can have the bigger cull package for the 2026 price! https://www.africahunting.com/threa...griffiths-safaris-starting-at-us-2-560.96285/
