There is a lesson here for those who would allow their own countries demographics to swing in favor of illegal immigration, anchor babies, welfare supported higher birth rates, etc. You can lose your country and your culture--to an invasion which has really nothing much to either culturally or economically validate it.
Certainly Israel cannot allow unfettered "return" privileges to those born/multiplied outside it's boundaries. That would be suicide.
Civilization has always conquered and replaced barbarism. Now we want to call barbarism the moral high ground. I weep for the world our young are inheriting.

Where ever I find an old Rhodesian today, I find them in responsible positions, doing an outstandingly competent job. They were and are a great people.

A dear friend my age and PH in Mozambique, where he and his lovely wife live 7 months out of the year in the bush, was a Rhodesian light infantryman. Their farm, which had been in the family for four generations was taken from them by the "veterans" movement in the early two thousands. Wonderful people who have been through things the fragile millennials in this country can not imagine.

I have also had the privilege of spending a couple of late afternoons over sundowners with former Major Anthony (Tony) White. Old soldiers telling war stories. One of his exploits was a case study when I attended the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School many years ago. He was kind enough to sign a copy of "Pamwe Chete." LTC Reid-Daly's magnificent work is the first hand account of the bush war that everyone with an interest in that conflict should read.

Lou Hallamore was a big part of this. I thoroughly enjoyed our discussions on my last two safaris. My take away were similar to our Vietnam, they won all the battles but lost the war. Also it was embarrassing to see England and the US completely abandon them…shameful to me

There’s an old song “Rhodesians Never Die” that brings some things into perspective.

A propos of these comments, Churchill’s speech, St George and the Dragon has some applicability to these times. If you don’t know this speech, I hope you take some time to become acquainted. I know it is common to quip that America shall be outpaced by China (I think not), or that we share many qualities with the Roman Empire, but maybe we are more like the Habsburgs of whom Kissinger observed that they were men of exquisite honor, especially in defeat. We are living in transitional times but some things never change - and I hope our political class, and our great nation, remembers that.

America could have won in Vietnam, and we should have and gone on to support a win for Rhodesia. The charge of stopping communism internationally was valid and noble. We failed. And the reckoning is to come for it.

The book that was mostly about Darrel Watt is also a good one. Handful of Hard Men I think it is.

It’s shameful what the West did to those people.

I was able to read a Reid-Daly book (I don't recall if it was the one named above). I'm certain I read it on the Everand site (a book reading subscription site).

I remember as a young kid looking through the Soldier of Fortune magazines at the store, (and buying them whenever Mom wasn't paying attention and I had the money) and seeing the recruitment adds for the Rhodesian army. "Be a Man Among Men" if I recall.
Quite inspiring to a young whippersnapper like I was then. Having read about and watched documentaries about Rhodesia, it was quite the place and a very hardy, honorable people who built a formidable fighting force, but alas, when all supplies are cut off a unit cannot sustain itself.

A sad end to an elevated society all because of the whims of world politicians who think they know right.

It just hit me....had to look at the interwebs. It was Selous Scouts - Top Secret War by Reid Daly

I'm sure the people who fought against the white minority rule would totally agree lol. We've been here for thousands of years doing just fine and these Europeans come flooding in without asking permission, undermine our culture and traditions, kick us off of our land and make us grow cotton and ground nuts lol. This statement ignores the barbarism that undergirded the power of ethnic minority governments in colonial Africa and indeed the world 'round. And now that I've made myself the least popular guy on AH, let the opprobrium rain down.

Read some of those. At first glance it sounds like the cast of a 70’s porno flick,

I grew up in a neighbourhood in Canada full of Rhodesian and South African ex-pats.

It had started as full of German speaking ex-pats after WWII, and as time went on, and various crisis happened we had waves of Rhodesian and South African immigrants become our neighbours as each successive crisis in their homeland sent more people heading for the exit. I am proud that so many of them chose to make Canada their new home.

As people I found them great neighbours. Honest, quick to laugh, hard working, always willing to help out with a problem. Many of them were professionals, doctors, lawyers, engineers, accountants and they were a big help to the economy and society of my home town. We were lucky to have them. They gave me my love of cricket and many remain friends to this day. I still go out of my way to hire new african immigrants in my office as young lawyers and law clerks, I have had great results with that and find them a pleasure to have on the team.

There is a lot to lionize about the white community and culture of the former Rhodesia. There is also a lot to respect and learn from their military experience. They produced some exceptional units and individual soldiers. One wonders how many East Germans and Cubans they actually faced in the bush wars.

However in the bigger picture, the decisions of the political elite around Smith meant independant Rhodesia was doomed to fail. When Smith declared that white minority rule would continue for one thousand years, it was done. The United States and U.K. could not support a country that did not allow majority rule, especially when people were being excluded on racial grounds. Nor should they have. The time of racial segregation was coming to a close and it was a just change. There is no justification for treating black people as second class citizens and denying them their voice in governance and the economy. It was an unjust system, bound to fail.
