I was told by my rifle builder to put renaissance wax on the metal and wood of my rifle for my upcoming trip to the Alaska Peninsula bear hunt to protect it from the salt spray. Has anyone ever used this stuff on a rifle before?
Wow on the trucks. That’s some serious protection. Well doneMaybe a little off subject but regarding protection. I have gone to Fluid Film on for my needs of rustproofing and firearm protection. The shop I managed had issues with rust from people handling our firearms. At that time, I had a good customer recommend fluid film applied with a paint brush on the metal and the wood, after doing this our rust problems went away. Since then, 10 yrs ago, I have been using it on my personal firearms with zero rust issues, including 7 trips to soggy Newfoundland and hunting in our damp weather in the Northeast. I also undercoat our trucks with it.
What rifle did you build for the Alaska Peninsula? Renaissance wax is great stuff. It will help the right rifle survive the AK Pen., but won’t prove sufficient for fine blued, figured walnut stocked rifle…not sure anything will. It’s one of the best places to see how badly and quickly stainless steel rusts.I was told by my rifle builder to put renaissance wax on the metal and wood of my rifle for my upcoming trip to the Alaska Peninsula bear hunt to protect it from the salt spray. I'm curious to know more. Did he recommend blending them, or just use one after the other? And use them on both the metal and the wood?

Yes, it is the aerosol that I use. A light coat on a paint brush is all that's needed.Hi mate.
I have renaissance wax on hand but Im interested to give Fluid Film a try. I googled it and they list a liquid and an aerosol can. I am assuming you use the aerosol since that is listed as "formulated from specially processed wool-wax"? Just wanting to check I am looking at the right one before ordering.
