I know this topic is bound to stir up comments by folks questioning the merits of a recoil reducer. So I'll preface my question by stating I'm not really interested in the opinions that say recoil reducers are useless, the same thing can be accomplished by adding lead to the stock, etc. I personally have recoil reducers in several big bores and I believe a good one works very well and will noticably reduce recoil. And I'm also not interested in recommendations for a recoil pad, i want something in the stock I won't see.

With that out of the way, I've only used Edwards Recoil Reducers and have been very happy with them. I tried to purchase 2 reducers from them 3 months ago when I acquired a pre64 model 70 chambered in 416, and have gotten the runaround from them. Bottom line, they're not in business at the moment.

So I'm curious if anyone here has had a positive experience with a brand they'd recommend? Edwards are mechanical reducers. I'd consider a mercury reducer if someone recommends one. Rather than buy something blindly, I'd rather hear positive things about a specific brand from someone on here that has firsthand experience. Thanks!

I would rather use a brake as it can be removed when hunting and does not add to the weight that needs to be carried. My need may be different as I insist on carrying my own rifle so weight is important to me.

The only thing with the brake is you have to rezero every time you remove or replace the brake.

Replace "can" in your post with "will always" and I'm right there with you. ;)

I've had a couple of mercury recoil reducers but have outgrown them as my level of experience and proficiency with mid and big bore rifles has expanded. I now prefer a lighter rifle that is easier to carry and will put in the time to make sure I'm able to be comfortable with the level of recoil that it requires.

As to the OP's question, the brand I used was Graco BreaKO Mercury Recoil Reducers. Last I knew they had been discontinued, but they were a quality product. If you send me a PM I'll go over how I installed them, but I don't want to bore the general membership with these details.
