Question About Case Size For Flying

Thanks all for the tips! Here is a revised Daka setup. Bolts left in rifles, and scopes facing up towards the case handles. I have some zoomed in pictures of the spots where it is tight which is worrisome to me, but this is probably one of the strongest plastic cases. Combine the strength of the case when closed and how tight the Daka foam holds everything, I think this is the case setup I am going to stick with. Will know for sure once the larger Magpul shows up.

Is there any cushioning effect with the block spacers? I'm thinking everything is fitted too rigid and going to get shocked by the baggage gorillas. Personally, I would not use this case for anything but going back and forth to the range. i use an SKB for airline travel. Has held up well for the last fifteen years and dozens of trips/legs. IIRC, empty weight is 22 lbs.

So… on our trip to RSA in June of 25 one of the guys took a Magpul single rifle case with the DAKA set up.
To be honest I was skeptical about the durability of the case and the ability of the DAKA set up to keep his rifle protected.
It did make the trip with no issues. His rifle arrived in country still zeroed.

I have used Pelican and Eylar cases with no issues.
I will be trying out Eylar’s newish Ragar system on my next trip.

There is cushioning as there is standard foam above and below. The grid system helps minimize movement. They have a video on YouTube where they show drop tests with cutaways and the Daka setup seems to really work well.

I'm impressed you could fit all that in so well. I bought the Daka system to put in my Pelican and wound up returning it. I couldn't ever figure out how to get it arranged in a way that fit my single rifle and didn't allow any movement. It seemed but more suited for tactical shaped rifles than my Model 70.

The Magpul case is here. Significantly bigger that the pelican. I think I am leaning towards the Pelican 1750

Here are my current two hunting rifles in a Pelican 1750 with Daka foam kit. There is minimal space between the top rifles scope and the plastic of the case, but I am not concerned because there is very minimal movement with the Daka kit.

I am concerned that I wouldn't have enough room on the bottom if I put a larger dangerous game caliber rifle on the bottom.

The scope on your composite-stocked rifle seems perilously close to the edge of the case. A dropped case could bend or damage the scope. You might consider detachable scope mounts and storing the scope in another case. Or get a bigger case….as you’re in the process of.

Well after some more thinking on the matter. It would seem I have decided on the best and most practical option. For a two rifle trip, this SKB Case with the rifles inside soft cases. From what I can tell there is minimal movement with the foam pushing down on the soft cases, and since I have soft cases I can keep the rifles protected at camp and while riding in vehicles.

Here's the winner of the great case debate lol. It is the medium size of all the options.
