That's what I'm not sure about, I've been told that a pre 64 mod 70 can be tricky to get to feed right.I’ll note that the mag box is wider on my ‘48 model 70 than my classic. The 48 actually fits 404 Jeffery cases quite nicely. Stack almost like it was made for it. They don’t stack well in the classic. I imagine it would be just a matter of screwing a 470 barrel on.
Few things to consider with the pre-64 actions. I believe there a 3 different mag sizes, with 300H&H being the longest. I have a custom 458WM built on a pre 64 action but would go with a post for future stuff. Also easier to convert a post 64 to 458Lott that a pre so im told, so not sure how your capstick would go. Also a shame to change a pre 64 300H&H if its a nice rifle.
Agree. Would be a mission. It;s not just the length on the pre-64 mag boxes. They have proper taper and inside rails, and given the 300 H&H taper, I doubt a factory box would work straightaway.
But is it doable?Agree. Would be a mission.
@358 Norma, here is 300 H&H and 470 Capstick side by side for comparison:

Anything is doable with a good smith and throwing money at it.But is it doable?
He has a very nice used one for sale right now! It's near perfect and is a proven rifle on Buff and Elephants Listed on GIYes. Kevin weaver has done it.
