Well, I don't know about all the rest, but I figured out a Poor Man's Rhino hunt......... Just get a photo of yourself aiming the rifle at one........ or two...... and call it a day. Be sure the rifle is NOT LOADED, and that you are CLOSE TO THE VEHICLE in case you need to escape........... LOL................

I could have taken both of them (tell yourself & Others)............. but this was a hell of a lot CHEAPER.............

Now if you are real cheap, I suppose you could apply this principal to your entire big 5.........??

I’ve heard it said several times over that the blue wildebeest is the poor man’s buffalo. So that got me thinking:

What would you consider the poor man’s big 5 or dangerous 7?

No such thing…

I like hunting Wildebeest and when I think of Africa, I think of the old Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom shows and the mass migration scenes with Wildebeest. I’ve hunted several Blue’s, taken a Black, and a Golden. They are special animals to me.

But, Dangerous game is different…

Black Wildebeest for Cape buffalo--WB sort of has a boss.
Civet cat for leopard--it has spots
Caracal for lion--both are tan
Hippo for elephant--both are big, both are dangerous
The Dodo for Rhino--both are extinct as far as hunting, so....it's all imaginary

To be fair, white rhino can be legally hunted, but definitely not a poor man’s consideration. The dodo is thoroughly absent.
Bayly Sipple has a very affordable dart hunt in here right now that would let you touch one and get some photos. I think I would prefer this method with a rhino-

The only problem with this is that a Sitatunga hunt is a lot more expensive than a crocodile to my knowledge

If it’s really the poor man big 5, Impala, Blesbok, common reedbuck, bushbuck, Springbok, red hartebeest

The rich man’s big 5, bongo, mountain nyala, lord derby eland, sitatunga, 100+ elephant.

Bushbuck are dangerous as hell when corned. Gemsbok (Oryx) are another nasty one that will stand and fight.

I’d add them both to the list, but I’m not sure what they would replace from the Big 5 or Dangerous 7.

Or you can get an outfitter that will let you paintball one from 30 yards.....that's a blast.

Thanks for all the input so far. In my head it would be:
Buffalo: Blue Wildebeest
Lion: Hyena or Caracal
Leopard: Genet Cat
Elephant: Eland
Rhino: Bushbuck

And maybe monitor lizard for the crocodile?

I’m my head, the poor man’s version would provide a similar hunting experience to the real thing. Idk what that would be for each of the big 5, but that’s what I think of.

Does hunting Iguanas in Florida count?

:ROFLMAO:
My 5 year old wants to hunt iguanas and dung beetles lol my three year old points to the buffalo paintings in the house and says he wants that. I’m trying to get the three to commit to the iguana… it would make life less expensive for me haha
